Roy's relatives? I didn't know there were any on here. If there are not then the assumption would be you consider any poster who does not share your views on the current manager must be a relative and nepotism is at play. A very well thought out and measured reply if I may say so. I did not realise that alternative views were automatically by " Roy's relatives " Now I do Originally posted by Rudi Hedman
There doesn’t according to Roy’s relatives on here. Either one or two shots on goal per month and survival, or the alternative of relegation and then the football conference. Edited by HKOwen (03 Mar 2021 11.28am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

There’s always something in between.

My expectation is each season PL survival, a cup run now and again, the occasional scalp of a top club, some memorable moments ( Ayew wonder goal, Eze free kick, Mateta back heel, Wilf on fire etc ). With that goes the other side of the coin, grinding out results, some dull games and some horrendous defensive errors by individuals. Basically what we have now. What I do not expect is a regular supply of exciting play week in week out. We last had that in the season when Murray was top Championship scorer, or when we were terrifying defences with Wilf down one wing and Bolasie down the other but those days have gone. It's easy to criticise the performances from an entertainment aspect but I can't see we are going to consistently have stability and entertainment without a substantial amount of cash appearing from somewhere. That's just my opinion, but it's gets a bit wearing having so much moaning and criticism based on someone not enjoying watching. Sorry but you have just as much ambition as Roy - 0 What a boring way to live, I'd hate to be comfortable with just getting by each year, progression is everything and palace aren't making any. Do you think City fans 20 years ago said they were happy to be in our position????

Isn’t it just great to see some sarcastic remarks about someone else’s sarcasm. Oh sorry, is that me being sarcastic?

Ask yourself one question. If you were a young kid, new to football and excited about everything as you are at that age, why would you choose to support Palace once you have watched us play?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I think for a lot of us what we get and what we expect don't quite match, even if our expectations aren't that lofty. Like many others I would have expected some signs of progress from having spent 8 seasons in the PL e.g. ground development, some evidence of joined-up thinking with regard to recruitment. I would also expect to have a set of players who can pass the ball with a fair degree of accuracy. This seems to have got worse recently, but I don't think we have ever had a team that is comfortable in possession since we returned to the PL. However, I will say that back in 2013 when watching us slump to a 1-4 home defeat to Fulham, I didn't have an expectation that entailed Palace still being in the PL in 2021. They were valued at £2bn in 2019. Not exactly a fair comparison.

Apparently it’s impossible to spend that sort of money on a team because of FFP, which does beg the question how they and Chelsea “built” their teams.

Could I boil this down to contrasting "Wahey, match day, Palace are playing today can't wait (even with the prospect we might get hammered) as opposed to the current state of things: "Palace are playing today, I really can't see anything to get excited about"

There have been a number of very good posts on this thread so I am glad I started, and this is my final thought. I am using collective names for the sake of ease not to deride. The " Non Roy Out Brigade tend to put more emphasis on facts, objective issues like points etc and are free in criticising style when they don't like it. The " Roy Out Brigade " are not fact driven and their complaints are predominantly subjective on matters of entertainment, style etc and are often like to forecast gloom and doom opinions as " facts ". i.e We will only get so many points in remaining games and this is what will happen if Roy stays .etc " Opinions are just that so using " may ", "might", "possibly" rather than " will " might be worth considering. Good talk Now, positive thoughts everyone for the Manure game Edited by HKOwen (03 Mar 2021 12.15pm)

I expect us to approach each game positively and try to win, understanding that there will be teams where we need to be more cautious, limit their opportunities - City, Pool, Utd, Chels, Leicester - and that the best we can hope for from these is a draw most of the time, but there will be occasions where our application and endeavour on the day will see us take 3 points. Most of the others we should be having a go at. We will fail many times, but I expect us to try. I expect the board to recognise that we have stagnated and are, relative to the advancement of football and the Prem, going backwards and in desperate need of a new footballing philosophy brought by a new manager, who can undo the negative mindset that has been coached into our players. I expect that over the course of a season we broadly tried to play the game the right way, had some highly entertaining and enjoyable moments, and made attempts to advance the club. I expect a few new signings and some deadwood to finally be let go.
