No, I did find that comment a bit odd. They have 7 loans so I did a quick tot up and the rest of the team came to 4 shillings and sixpence. I’m sure our team is worth more than that! Perhaps he meant more expensive if they actually owned them?

They probably do if you tried to buy all those loan players! Probably better to say that Fulham had a team out that was valued at more than ours would have been, by quite a margin, I would say.

With Zaha out of the equation, their squad is certainly worth more than ours.

We're the Arthur over ere!

Even with Zaha in, Fulham's squad is probably worth more than ours (if you include what those loan players would cost to buy)

Bit weird. If attacking wins you matches then surely if your winning matches that will win trophies. He wasn't in charge of Inter Milan or Udinese at the time was he?

It is the exact opposite.
Defending and destroying opposition play is MUCH easier and less phisical demanding than attacking and building your own play.
An Italian Serie A manager some time ago told me, attacking wins you matches, defending wins you trophies.

Our squads value has massively decreased due to age tho, atleast the board has no other option this summer, they have to spend money.

what about their squad's annual wage bill - Palace's will be far larger.

Valuation is not fixed, wages are.
We have a starting 11 all on £50k plus a week, so i'm not prepared to accept excuses.
Leeds outplayed us with 10 championship players only a few weeks ago - their squad valuation and wages will be less than us

I don't think anyone would disagree with you there, but I wasn't talking about wages but player valuations. The problem with our wage bill is that most of our players aren't worth what they were offered even when they signed and most have now declined in output, so their wages now are even more obscene.

As for Leeds, I agree but will they end up being next season's Sheff U?

I agree they were periods of dross, as was the George Burley era, but it at least felt like the games mattered. We never seem to be near the relegation zone or Europe and there is no desire to go for a cup run.

I am aware that it is a successful period for the club but mid table mediocrity playing dour football is taking its toll. I've never been so disinterested in Palace as I am now.

Either way, there should be big changes this summer with so many players out of contract and Roy probably retiring. It could be a boom or bust - both of which are better than what we are going through now.

Such as crap phrase really, but one that is bandied about every season ... another way of putting it would be over the last 8 years we have been one of the top 15 clubs in England.
That said, it is dour at the moment, that I can't disagree with, but it hasn't always been.

... what

You can’t equate what the board are paying a player with how good that player turns out to be in practise. Even a transfer fee is not always an accurate way of deciding exactly how good the player really is. It’s all a matter of judgements that can be wide of the mark.
So many of our squad have gone past their peak years, it doesn’t change that because they are still on a very decent salary.
Leeds wage bill didn’t come into it. They outplayed us because most of there squad are in their prime years , and they had far to much in the tank ,for our overpaid outfit.
