we played Swansea in the Caribou when Potter was manager (1-0 Sorloth!!!) - he fielded seven debutants and they played us of the park for an hour. Brighton just need a proper striker - simples.

Nice article here saying Potter is too good for Brighton...

Whilst good in attack, we had very few chances to assess their defence. I think it got put to the test 3 times and we scored 2.

The second goal they had 4 men back in the area but no one looked out for Benteke.

He seems like a Pardew MK2. We are far too cautious, they need to be more cautious.

Their signings show that there is no point spending money for the sake of it.
Don't believe the hype.

I probably wouldn’t have posted if I had rad ahead and seen the bigtoe punt post, having read some of his other posts on the ground development we seem to have found the one person on the internet who has a clue what they are talking about.
So if you are happy with my half knowledge!
No owners can't loan unlimited amounts to cover losess. They can lend certain things, Bloom lent Brighton money to build the stadium and the training ground. A loan to sign Mbabpe wouldn’t be allowed.
In the championship you can under fair play rules lose up to £39 in a three year period that’s for expenses like transfers, wages general day to day cost etc. Brighton consistently lost this kind of money in the championship but never exceeded the three year rolling cap, so built up debt on top of this debts they owed around £100m to Bloom for the stadium and training ground.
If Bloom hadn't been prepared to cover the cost and loan/inject money into Brighton then they would have only been allowed to lose £5m a year not £13m.
I think the limit for the premier league is about £35m a year loses but it is harder to find clarification on that. You also spread the cost of signing a player across the life of the contract. So when we signed Benteke for £30m it wasn’t £30m added on to that years books and FFP rules but £6m spread across the five years of his contract. So the net transfer spend of £240m will be spread across several years, I know a few Brighton supporters who are upset they haven’t continued to spend money I had assumed that it was Bloom wanting them to become sustainable or running out of cash but it could well be he is worried about FFP and the spending catching up with them. They were even more upset when I rand them at 10 o’clock Monday night.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply

Hmmm, not sure about this. I like Eddie Howe but my worry is that he took his last club down. The club would need to do due diligence on the reasons behind that before they employed him. Same with this Bloke, although there is the added concern here that his teams, despite all that possession and tippy tappy stuff, could not hit a cows arse with a banjo.

Interesting debate but I’m not convinced yet with the Potter way. That is 4 times a Potter Brighton side has faced us with all the games following a similar pattern and they haven’t beaten us in any of them. Now we can say all they need is a striker or two but he plays a system where they have about 6 players playing the same role, if he changed this and had a couple of strikers that didn’t drop deep, holes would start to appear in there midfield as it would become exposed therefore all the neat passing would reduce.

Interesting observation Dartford. Let me ask this? Do you think Potterball is a version of Pepball but with lesser players? After all, Brighton did give Citeh a good game in that narrow defeat at the Etihad. Also, Pep has often played with a so-called 'false' no.9. Indeed, it would be fascinating to see what Potter would do with Pep's Citeh squad..

Last season when Brighton drifted towards the relegation zone, Potter went to a less expansive, more pragmatic set up.

I can see the same happening this season if they fail to win at West Brom on Saturday.

Which begs the question as to why he hasn't learned from that and has persisted with a style of play which is not yielding enough wins.

The football is I admit easy on the eye, but then just gets frustrating when possession isn't turned into goals.

Anyone saying they were unlucky against Palace the other night needs to bear in mind that this was a standard Brighton performance. Especially at home. It's not unlucky when it's happening most of the time.

Yes doombear, I think it is. It’s almost as if the Barcelona way mesmerised so many. Don’t get me wrong if is a great way to play if you have top players and I do think he could make a better fist of it with a top team. Answering the original question though, I would be worried if he came into Palace, the funds that he has had at Brighton to change the style wouldn’t be there and we just don’t have the players to play this way. I keep banging on about it but our midfield is dire, just no pace to pass and move.

Me too with our current squad. I think Potter is both a decent manager and a decent person. He did a lot for the community when he was in Sweden. Wouldn't mind him at Palace once we have a better mix of youth, experience and technical ability, but we probably can't afford to buy that.

As you say our midfield is dire and as I've said elsewhere add to that our ageing, slow back line and we really have few options as to how to set the squad up whoever is manager. If we try and do a Brighton or a Leeds or even a Fulham with our current crop of players we'd be in the Championship in no time IMO.

Just hoping that the evolution to younger, fitter and faster players will continue this summer with some timely acquisitions of midfielders and defenders.

Just to clarify I am genuinely on the fence about Potter. It is an interesting article but to say that Maupay, Trossard, Connolly, Wellbeck and Gross underperformed misses the point, except for Gross he brought or promoted all of them, paying £20m and £18m for Maupay and Trossard. It seems a bit strange to say if the players he bought were better they would be doing better.
The other angle is they have been unlucky and if you look at xg all will come good for them. You either have to accept he is the unluckiest manager in history or that maybe something is not being picked up the xg models. Brighton tried to play the way big teams do but with a the spark of creativity that can break a stubborn set defence they haven’t got the likes of De Bruyne who can create . They are like the top of pops records by session musicians you used to get back in the 70s and 80s, everyone knew what they were doing and were good musician but it lacks the flair spontaneity and creativity.
If I was a Man City or Liverpool supporter, I would prefer him to Roy, as a Palace support I’m not sure I would want him. If he is sensible, he ‘ll go the Rodgers route take the job a Celtic or somewhere he can be a flat track bully playing nice football with forwards who are better then opposition defenders and wait for your chance to come up with a bigger club.
