He got them to 2 Play-Off finals and they were promoted to the Championship after success in the second final. In their first season in the Championship they finished in 9th place. We finished 20th that season in the same division!

Apart from Grabban, other players he signed from us were Dave Martin, Tony Craig and Jermaine Easter (Loan).

One which annoyed me at the time was a when Steve Kabba was sold to Sheff Utd.

He had been on loan at Grimsby where he had scored 6 goals in 14 games. He then was sold to Sheff Utd where he scored 11 goals in 33 games.

I'm sure this was back when Trevor Francis was manager, and who did we end up with............Ade Akinbiyi !!!!!!

Christ, Ade Fcukinbadbuy. I remember his first goal (after about 20 games) which came off his face at the Holmesdale end. Ripped his shirt off in celebration.

Should have stuck with body building as he was better at that than he was a football.

Tony Pulis signed him for Stoke from us on a 'Free'.
He might have played for Pulis at Gillingham.
I had heard someone say that Pulis seemed to get the best out of the player.

Good to see that there have been few players released that proved to be decent.

Brighton fans still moan that they didn't give Ian Wright a chance after he had a trial down there. Not sure who their manager was then (Willo will tell us) but this turned out to be a massive mistake. Just like them letting FFS Murray leave to join a better club.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I don't know who the Brighton manager was at the time.

I have just found out that the manager was Chris Cattlin!

Alan Smith signed him from a Jamaican club.
Played for quite a few league clubs after he left us.

We might of got a sell on free from Southend to Forest but don't think we would have got one from Forest to Liverpool.

I've already answered that - see below.
We got 2 sell on fees as Southend had a % too so when he was sold by Forest to Liverpool we got 12.5% of whatever they got.
Incidentally Collymore's transfer fees
Jan 1993 - 150k
Summer 1993 - 2.25m
Summer 1995 - 7m

Not Coppell's finest hour - at the time we sold him (after a successful loan) wewere playing Chris Coleman upfront

Collymore was bought from non league for a cool £100k so to sell him after Wright had left for only £150k seemed a strange decision to me. 6 months later he was sold to Forest for over £2m.

We did get 12.5% of sell ons though so got money out of that move and also when he moved on to Liverpool (as Southend had a % clause too)

Fuller was on loan with an agreed fee at the end of the loan - we didn't take that up. It was reported that we released him after signing him for £800k but we merely didn't take up the option to buy
