'If anything is to be learned we are not ready to go toe toe with the big boys ( i think the Spurs game gave us the false confidence.)'

Interesting point, viveasheagle.

If you come up against Liverpool, Citeh, Chelsea, Spurs, even Moan Utd (just) and they are at their best and you are below your best- because it's three games in six days and you're an ageing squad, or your newly confident striker is unjustly banned, 0-7 is always possible. Why? because they're miles better! The reason they are miles better is that they've got loads more money. Premiership football is largely predictable in the sense that at the end of the season, with the odd maverick performance, what you are looking at is pretty well a taxonomy of economic advantage. So with 12,000 gates, a club like Bournemouth will have only limited exposure to the top flight. There are exceptions to this economic determinism (a very depressing thing) in clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle, who should be doing better in view of their support (and, crucially, gate receipts).
Against the 'power elite', a side like Palace might win, say, one game in eight, draw a couple and lose the rest. But unless the discrepancy on the day between the two sides is as exacerbated as it was yesterday (by all means the quality of finishing isapplicable here), a 0-7 or a 9-0 is unlikely. So you might lose 3-0 at City and just say: 'that's life.' But be wary: the sort of thumping we got yesterday can happen again.
Apart from that glorious season in the early 1990s when we finished third in the top flight but were unable to compete in Europe, if I remember correctly) as a result of the ban post Heysel (thanks a bunch, Liverpool), we are never seriously in the running for Europe. Because we don't have the money and even if we had, we probably wouldn't spend it. So the best we can hope for is to be in the top flight and on the odd occasion enjoy a victory over one of the top clubs (Townsend's goal at Citeh), compete against the next tier, and routinely beat the bottom six.
Of course, it's not just Economics. Football is about: imagination, passion, romance (Ranieri at Leicester), tactics, cussedness, inspiration, team work, morale, luck, etc. etc. Clubs in our position can 'outperform' by an inspired choice of manager (within limits: Mourinho's never going to manage Palace, nor is Klopp), by scouting, by investing in a youth structure (Southampton), by buying and selling well (Leicester: Mahriz, Chilwell, Maddison, Tielemanns).
So, in which of these areas can Palace do better?

We kept attacking and leaving big holes at the back.

We had some great play in first half but were 3-0 down.

We had Chek at stop gap centre half who wanders, ball watches, hasn't got discipline or aware or concentration of being one. Look back at their 5 goal for example, he's in a midfielders position, hes left his CB position. Never let him again start a match in that position, when we other CBs available, hes a constant liability at CB. He did have some good touches but other times very poor!!

We needed a ball playing centre midfield!

We missed the Focal point in Ben. Ayew is not it.

Roy laughing after we have lost 7 nil.

We need new younger CBs, young and hungry. Dann, Cahill, Tompkins coming to end of the their premier status.

Roy is still naïve in this league.. the time he should have had more cautious tactics, at 5-0 down, he wasnt telling his players to defend and keep the score down, 2nd half should have been a tight defence. I like attacking but some teams will rip you apart..Roy never changed the tactics at 0-4.

Eze was not having great match. He will have learn alot.

Our corner led to their goal, Wilf took it too quick....

Wilfs magic is waning against big teams, so no big team will be buying him in Jan..

Moss is a CQQQ. Once again poor refereeing standards and favouring big teams. Had Milo kicked Henderson in that manner at 0-1 down, Milo would have been booked so why not Henderson when he fouled Milo.

When Trent kicked the ball away which should have been a booking for him, which upset VanHolt, our team lost concentration and once again (and again and again) a throw on deep in their area seconds later is a goal for them. Its so clear every match we do not positional training for throw ons while LFC are masters of it.

Is the rumour true, in time for Christmas (the time we change many managers) Roy has just offered Parish his resignation after this match?

What I did love, we did try again with some freedom and tried to attack. It reminds me when we lost 9-0 in 1989, LFC had 11 shots and one penalty and scored 9, it was one of those days. BUT if you watch that game too, we played well, take out the goals,, funny old game.

I have praised Roy for trying to create more attacking, but again it proved today Plan A was to attack and attack with no Plan B. But LFC were a different class today last week at Fulham appalling or was it Fulham were a better team??.. our team needed our fans today more than ever!!

We need a real leader as a captain!!

Look back to when we beat LFC on 23/4/17 2-1 there. Cabaye made a big difference, we need such a player!!

Ps Klopp is still complaining about 12.30pm Saturday kickoffs!!

Moss and Friend has it in for Palace, let along that Pratt ref at West Ham, he cost us, we needed Ben upfront today.

Bad day at the office today or was it??

I've had the Kouyate argument on another thread. That he was found wanting against the most potent attack in the Premier League shouldn't come as a surprise. I really don't think any combination of our centre backs would have stopped the rout such was the quality of Liverpool's finishing.

Quite how you can describe Roy as '' naive '' given the number of matches he has managed in at this level I don't get. As for yesterday's game management, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't ...at 0-3 down you can try to shut up shop and get criticised for that or keep trying to get back into the game and leave holes at the back...

Where did you hear the rumour of Roy offering to resign ?

Ultimately I think it was just one of those days when most of what was on target went in. Hard to take but we need to move on from it.

Getting hammered at home is one thing but what I really can't abide is players commenting on it. It's inevitable that some clown will say something like: 'this can only make us stronger' or 'we can learn from this' or that statement of the bleeding obvious: 'we have to move on to the next game.' Just say nothing!. If a player or manager is contractually obliged to say something to 'Premier League Productions'or whateer it calls itself, say as few words as possible. As a society, we don't do concepts like 'shame' or 'guilt' any more and the players are more likely to be on the golf course than still in the changing room but can they seriously believe that they should draw their pay this week rather than, say, donate it to charity?
Even worse would be if someone were to say: 'well, look at Southampton. 0-9 to Leicester last season and look at them now.' Or: 'Well, Liverpool lost 7-2 to Villa'. in fact Luka has already said that.
To lose 0-7 at home when we've been seven consecutive seasons in the Premiership is much worse than getting stuffed 9-0 at their place in the late eighties.
The only good that can come from today's debacle is the acceptance that it is just a waste of time to play the likes of: McArthur, Ayew, Ward, Dann, Schlupp, Kouyate against any top six side.
All that matters is that this is NOT just regarded as 'one of those freak results that can happen during the Covid season.'For a group of highly paid professionals to lose 0-7 at a home is a disgrace. Will anyone at the club say as much?

It is a disgrace and a humiliation.

An ageing team just could not cope with a more vibrant energetic outfit.
I believe 15 players in our squad are either in their 30s, or will be 30 in the New Year and I have kept asserting that with the truncated pre-season and the succession of games in this unusual season we would pay the price.

Given the above, I am far from convinced that we will survive in the PL.

I think we will survive this Season because both SUFC and WBA look poor and will fill two of the relegation places. That only leaves one more and I figure we will pick up enough points from our remaining fixtures to put at least one other team below us.

Recruitment of younger first team players has become a huge issue and hopefully the purchase of Banks, Eze & Ferguson will begin to address that but we need to follow it up with some more over the forthcoming transfer windows...a fact Parish has publicly acknowledged, so with a bit of luck we will see some activity before the start of the 20/21 campaign.

Sheff Utd down to 10 men battled hard for a good point at Brighton. WBA now have Sam Allardyce as manager and he could well transform their fortunes.

You ought to have my moniker, Willo. Sheff U still have to win after 14 games and are 16 points behind us - they won't catch us. We gained good points against Spurs and West Ham, both of whom are far better teams than the Weed.
As for Big Sam at WBA, so what? All good things come to an end at some point and I can well see WBA going down.

Whilst I can see both Burnley and Fulham having a chance of avoiding the drop, the Weed are poor - lots of meaningless possession but little or no end product. They will finish below us as they always do. Despite losing to Newcastle, we are a better team than them and I expect we'll finish above them.

It’s vital we stay out of the relegation fight. The games coming up against Villa on Boxing Day and the Sheffield United game are crucial for us. If we fail to win either of those the second half of the season could be very challenging.

Roy manages well considering what he has to work with at Palace, the quality, strength, depth & age of the squad compared with the top 6 teams in the premiership.
As others have already pointed out 3 games in six days also killed us!
Liverpool won't score 7 goals from 8 shots on target in many other games this season & didn't play nearly as well in the last 2 or 3 matches as they did yesterday.

As far as we are concerned lets just hope Roy & Ray can get the players heads up, some confidence restored and Palace hit the ground running on Boxing Day against Villa, at least Benteke will be back as a focal point up front.
I watched Man Utd v Leeds Utd today and although the score was 6-1 that could have been anything from 5-5 to 10-0.
Also I saw Harry Maguire jump with his arm across across Bamfords face, catch him in the eye with his finger and the referee totally ignore the whole thing as most others have always and currently do. As it wasn't his bent arm and using his elbow!

All very true, we need to look no further the Everton who as I have mentioned in the past aren't a million miles ahead of us and how much time effort and money have they spent to escape being not good enough for the top six, it's quite a lot.

Vardy will need replacing one day for Leicester and that will need serious considering as to who fills his massive boots because he is a player and a half and one of the reasons for their success, how do we find someone like him and also someone like him who isn't interested in moving on to a bigger club as Mahrez did, so I suppose the first hurdle to negotiate is not losing the talents of players like AWB to Man.U ..good luck with that one.

Today Spurs showed how really difficult it is to be consistent.

We have hope so that's a good start.

We have a good points tally so far and so the clubs at the bottom need to achieve much better results then us which is a tall order in all reality considering how well Mr Hodgson has so far dealt with mini disasters on the pitch, our only real concern would be to lose Zaha to injury because although Eze is very able to create the problems we need for the opposition he hasn't yet had enough experience to make the most of his talents that would be needed to accumulate enough points to keep the panic stations away.

I agree. I didn't think Bilic was the problem at West Brom. They just lack quality players. They could still stay up if they get help in January but otherwise I don't see BFS making much of a difference.
