Apart from Benteke costing almost 3 times the Cabaye fee, part of the deal brought Benteke's brother to the club also...

Roy does not use Benteke correctly this is the problem we saw this when he got a recall for Belgium and went on to score twice even when he had not been playing for Palace Whoever gets this guy if its for only 8m is getting a bargain if they use him correctly. Anybody that claims he has not had good games are not clearly watching the games yes hes not scoring but he is doing a lot of work and winning headers but he has no support plus the service stinks Wilf just slows everything up no interest in crosses and a lot of the time Roy does not even play Townsend so we have no proper winger on both sides plus we don't play direct balls or crossing game anymore slow boring build up at the back football which goes know where

It became very trendy to play a left footer on the right and vice versa but it doesnt work with Benteke because the wingers have to check before crossing allowing defenders to set themselves. He scored a great header at Bournemouth 3 yrs ago when Townsend crossed from the left early and CB powered it in

He had one good season for us (his first) when he did scored 15 goals, he has not had many decent games since and his scoring record is abysmal. IMO he is lazy cannot work defenders off the ball in the same as Jamie Vardy does and has no ground skills and is really just a one trick striker who can head a ball providing he does not have to do too much work to get to the header. Why we ever extended his contract I will never know, whatever salary he is getting he does not deserve and is bleeding this club dry. As for his 8mil valuation, I will be surprised if any one decent will even want shell out that amount of money for him when you take into consideration his wage demands and his inability to score. Sorry in his prime he is not butin rapid decline he is and its there for all to see, no wonder Klopp got shot of him!

So many clueless people in here it just shows you have never completed in any sports in your life you just dont have a clue at all. To state that international teams are minor so it does not count yeah ok so remove all those teams from tournaments etc the results are meaningless clueless. Now trying to compare to Vardy they are nothing alike complete different player wow you dont have a clue about football. Yes Benetke goes and hides good one o my think use your brain look at the bigger picture its because of the super slow build up play and why would a guy even bother to charge into the box when he wont get the service. I suggest you go back and watch the games under roy and when benteke was scoring for palace you will spot massive differences it may well open your eyes why theirs a problem.

My biggest fear here is that in our desire to get a high earner off the books - assume to bring in another who can not just hold up play but who scores - we get a low fee and offer to pay a chunk of wages moving forward. I don't doubt Tekkers will come good with the right service and again we end up looking right mugs

Even with a slow build up he should be putting in more effort and scoring a few more. I agree that Roy's tactics have not brought out the best of Benteke but strikers have to score goals, that's all they get judged on ultimately. He doesn't have a shot on him, he has no left foot, he can't go past a player and get a shot away, he can't head the ball unless it's pinged in with pace 'away' from the keeper, he gets out muscled by smaller guys all the time, he makes odd runs behind defenders as if he doesn't want to be played in, he can hold the ball up if it's played into his chest but loses possession quite often because of his first touch...apart from that he's great and worth every penny!
