Really can't believe that people don't see staying in the Premier League as a terrific achievement to enjoy. When I see Arsenal or Liverpool run on to the Selhurst turf I feel absolutely no nostalgia for the days when I watched us in the the Third Division (South) playing teams no one's ever heard of or would want to, on a mud heap in front of a few thousand, if that! Premier League - terrible state of affairs.... As a long-time supporter somewhat 'Ripe' in years I recall those days of woe in bygone times, accordingly I certainly concur with the general thrust of the sentiments. It's a nice idea and he has a good relationship with Roy but once someone's been a manager they tend not to want to step down to be a No. 2. Originally posted by daven
If I heard correctly its a year extension, if so an assistant would be a good idea so that if he retires after that we can have a seamless transition. How about Gerrard.

All we need is a proven goal scorer to push us into European places. Somebody like Sorloth

Whats that then after all these years? Still just to not get relegated? That’s progress for you.... Do you honestly think there will be a day where Palace won't play not to be relegated in the Premier?

Really torn over this. I appreciate that Roy gives us stability and will probably keep us in this league, but the football is absolutely dire to watch. We're far too defensive in my opinion. I bet that he reverts to playing Luca tomorrow, although we've been more expansive and successful over the last couple of games when he's been out.

I don’t think anyone on this board has ever complained about the number of points we have, where we are in the league, or the fact it is our longest stay in the PL. The only gripe is the manner in which we are currently doing it. The big question to be answered is whether this team can play in a more entertaining manner and still get either, the same amount of points, or more. Is it too much to ask? Possibly, because the manner in which we are doing it is Roy’s way and he probably only knows that way. I’m not knocking it because it works, but it’s not pretty and it’s not for me.

I, like many here, appreciate we're in the EPL and for the longest spell in our history. However it's difficult to see how, with things as they are, it's ever being anything other than survival being the measure of success. I used to think that getting established in the EPL was a passport to riches, we have proved that's not the case. We seem to be skint. So I think jettisoning very expensive dead wood has to be a priority. I'd just love us to replace them with potentially great youngsters. Chances of that? There's a small group who you'd expect, year on year, to remain in the EPL, I'd love Palace to be one of them but can you see it? I'm OK with RH being retained mainly because the chances of getting someone better aren't good. Whatever, Palace will always be my team. BTW this is a good and sensible forum.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

Class Manager. Class Man. At the start of the season everyone was predicting relegation.
