I think Tomkins is our best centre back at the moment

Cannon probably our most important player, we would have gone down to the third division in the 80's without him.

In my relatively short life, Sakho's performances for that half-season when he first arrived at the club were the best example of centre-back play I've ever seen for Palace. He was an absolute beast defensively, and we saw an instant improvement in our play with his balls forward. We beat West Brom in our first or second game and this one centre-back had boosted the level of the whole team.

Unfortunately, injury means he might never get back to that level.

As for Cahill, fantastic, solid defender and a great organiser too. He and Dann don't have much pace between them but have shown in the last couple of games what excellent footballing brains they've got.

Agreed.

Anyone remember just how good Craig Moore was? the Australian we had for a short stint. He was one of the best CB's I have seen as a palace fan, literally nothing got past him.

Yep I remember him. Big blonde Aussie. Absolutely cracking player. Think we may of signed him from QPR but may be wrong.

Was not with us long but I remember as you say, nothing got past him.

We're overstocked in the CB department, that's for sure. I'm a big Martin Kelly fan, Cahill is obviously undroppable at the moment and Tomkins is obviously very good, good enough for England at times. Sakho on form is as good as any of them, but off form is somewhat of a liability. It pains me to see any of them on the bench at any time to be honest.
Scott Dann is probably my favorite Palace player though, for his reliability and quiet leadership over the years. I can almost guarantee that we'd have been relegated if Pulis had not signed him that January.

i love all of our cb's ,we really are spoilt for choice! for me on form sakho is the best as his passing is top quality! Scott Dann at the moment though is an absolute beast, hes rolling back the years. hes been perfection the last 2 games, what a f***ing hero he is!

For Me Cahill is the best out of our current lot. Cahill and Tomkins should be the best partnership, but this season I think our best 2 have been Cahill and Kelly. Dann looks too slow now, but probably our best at set pieces. Sakho needs to go, if we can get a buyer , too injury prone now. Kouyate is obviously decent at Center back as he plays there for his country.
All in all must be our strongest position in the squad, f*ck knows How they all play in training games.

Alan Stephenson was another one of my heroes, a different era but a great player.

A few names seem to have slipped through the net.
What about Leif Andersen? Ian Evans? And legend Paddy McCarthy?
It all depends on the time they were playing. I mean imagine Billy Gilbert playing today. He wouldnt last 5 minutes! I would love to have seen Billy playing against Patrick Bamford - one of the biggest arseholes ever to have played for us, and see him kick his balls off!
