What rubbish, he left for more money, taking the main staff with him, this in the middle of the season when it is hard to find a new manager, unless you can find another Greedman. Year, he really cared about the club and fans.
He was an assistant coach at Southend going nowhere with his life and career when Parish rescued him with the Palace job, so much for loyalty.
If you want to leave, do it close season, not in the middle, leaving the club that has made you in the s**t.

Yes, he was a great player, but has gone from hero to zero.

In actual fact Freedman didn't quite leave in mid-season, he left in October after 11 games with the club in 4th place and winning 6 of his last 8 games in charge.

When he joined Bolton they were 18th and they finished the season in 7th place.

Surely it has to work both ways as we have sacked managers mid season

he was entitled to go - there is no unconditional loyalty in any job, but it was a bad decision for Palace and for him, he has never got back to the level he was when we dragged us up the championship, his astuteness picking players back then was remarkable so his recruitment role here made sense but he hasn't managed to repeat the trick for whatever reason - there was an interesting quote about available players too often being either too expensive for us or not good enough, but if Bournemouth with their Subbuteo stadium can attract the right type of player than so can we - we need to recruit better recruiters than the likes of Freedman and Moody.

Yes we have, but only out of desperation when staring at relegation, not for monetary reasons.

That's all very well Willo, but the amount of games he had won or lost and league positions at Palace and Bolton are irrelevant, my point was about the way he left and the damage it could and nearly did do to the club.

Bournemouth have a billionaire owner and broke ffp rules to get promoted and still splash the cash regularly.
Don't be fooled by the "plucky little Bournemouth " story.

I understand your sentiments and of course he was vilified for the action he took.

I believe the point I was making was that he didn't desert a 'sinking ship' and departed for a club much lower in the table so I suppose he took a bit of a gamble.

We of course were promoted the season he left so perhaps some might opine that having left us in 4th place, this provided the platform for our promotion.

There is no arguing that point as he did just that

Spot on. However good he was as a player, he’s never a club legend anymore. For the record, I don’t think he was a great player at all... decent, but not great.

I doubt if Dougie was ever a contender for the Hearts job.

He and his family are settled here, and he had bad experiences in management at Bolton and Forest.

He’s certainly not in the bookies’ top ten for the job.

Jack Ross is 2/1 and Gary Holt is 4/1.

Higher odds are being offered for Scot Gemill, David Moyes, Stuart McCall, Michael O’Neill, Paul Hartley, Steve Robinson and Steven Pressley.

There’s no reason to believe that Dougie is not doing a good job at Palace, inevitably with tight budgetary constraints.

Also he seems to be relatively secure - and he would forfeit that if he returned to the ups and downs of day-to-day management.

It would be interesting to know more about his job description and how he has been contributing.

Is this purely speculation from the press linking every Scottish manager, past and present to a vacant big job or more wishful thinking on our behalf that we might be shot of him. Considering his managerial record and his previous wage demands , I can't see this happening.

If you look back at the beginning of the thread you will see the links to newspapers articles
