Kelly is an ok player at the end of the day. Not good enough to be in our starting XI, but a good pro and not too demanding on the wages front. A good 4th choice cb.

Yep, reality check. He worked his socks off against a mediocre Leicester team.

Today we're up against a squad of players including Aguerro, Jesus, Sterling, Silva, Sane - the list goes on.

Kelly is a great squad player... I can't help but think Pardew damaged him and his confidence somewhat... He persisted playing him at left back and Kelly is just not a left back or a right back for that matter... I felt sorry for him during that period because he was continually raped by Premier league wingers..

Nailed it. Pardew nearly destroyed his career continually putting him at left back.

Kelly definitely played a few games at left back. Including against City where he got annihilated repeatedly.

Mr Dependable plus....never lets us down, always gives 100%, never moans when preferred to another and forming a solid partnership with the brilliant Cahill.
Great pro and what an assist for the Ayew goal on Saturday!

There must be other plaudits...

Shirt his to lose at the moment for me. Even if sakho and Tomkins fit id stick with him as he’s playing so well

He can play at right back, as well.

Probably hasn't got the pace for Right-back now, but would be used in an emergency I guess.

I hope Roy isn't like Pardew who always just put his favourites straight back into the team.

As been said here, stick with a winning combination and make Tomkins and Sahko work hard to force their way back in

He hasn't looked comfortable in full-back positions. His preferred position is in central defence and he is at his best when played here.

We paid ridiculous money to Liverpool for Benteke and injury-prone Sakho, Martin Kelly came for about 3 mill (not sure). No doubt in my mind who is our number 1 performer from Anfield. Solid, no fuzz and Mr dependable. Kelly and Cahill our main central defenders for sure...
