I'm going to be unpopular here, but I don't care to be honest. I was never a fan while he was alive and am not one (sycophantic or otherwise) now he's dead. Never really took to his music or imagery, was more into Paul Weller and the like as I grew up, then massivley into indie and dance music in the late eighties and 90's. For me whilst he may have been ground breaking etc etc I thought he sounded like a badger straining a s***. However clearly a massive musical influence for some, just not for me.
Back on topic, Oh! You Pretty Things still sounds fresh and from the more recent stuff, Where Are We Now could be a modern classic. And I definitely have a soft spot for The Laughing Gnome.

It's amazing, how every album, 20+ has at least one classic, one pop tune and something unique that you have a soft spot for. i've been dissecting Blackstar all night and man..... it's definitely his most thought out work in ages - i was trying to explain it to my wife, it sounds pretentious to say, but it really is art, it's not just a song, it's a narrative with meaning, it's a story, it's a lesson... i dunno, such a shame.

Laughing gnome, Did you ever have a dream. Only cos it mentions Penge. TVC15, Life on Mars, John I'm only Dancing, five years, Suffragette City, Rock and roll suicide I could go on for hours. Every album would have two or three tracks you'd listen to over and over again. The loss of someone who could write some of the most brilliant music we will ever listen to. Always makes me chuckle! From the same era, 'She's Got Medals' - it's just not a proper night out if I haven't belted out a drunken rendition of this.

So many possibles for favourite as he's produced so much brilliant stuff! For me, perhaps Wild Is The Wind or No Control, This Is Not America, A Better Future, I Would Be Your Slave, I Know Its Gonna Happen Someday, Let's Dance, Always Crashing The Same Car, All The Young Dudes etc etc. Can't pick one out, sorry! He's gonna be missed big time!

Changes for me. I was a kid playing with my copy of Encarta 95 on CD ROM at the ripe old age of 9 and hadn't really gotten in to music. I was browsing about and came across a clip of Changes which blew my little mind. Spoke to my Dad about it and he played me the whole song and everything else of worth by Bowie... Never got to see him though which I'm gutted about it... RIP legend
