Maybe its time that they did different types of licence fee to cover certain parts of the BBC. A digital pack for Radio and the red button etc

That way they'd know for sure what needs to be cut and what needs to be saved

Whilst I do think that's a fair standard, my only problem is that you'd lose a lot of the programming and radio that you don't find on commercial stations, which is part of the BBC's appeal. One of the things I like about the BBC is that it does maintain a degree of aesthetic values in its decision making, which has resulted in some very excellent programming that you just don't see on the other broadcast channels (even if I don't personally like it, the idea that the BBC will produce material for 'everyone' rather than just a market demographic).

I can't really see Capitol Radio doing Moral Maze or Womens hour (which is surprisingly very good).

As long as Bargain Hunt continues at 12.15pm when I have my lunch, I'm not bothered what they do.

Have they ever actually found a "bargain"? They seem to barter people down to a ridiculous price that would normally result in being told to f off, and then proceed to lose money on it.

Many times Stuk!

However.. the programme format is fatally flawed... Buy an item from a retail outlet and try to sell it for more at auction!

Despite that a few experts - James Lewis and Paul Laidlaw make profits buying specialist niche items.

It also depends on the auction house - Anita Manning's in Glasgow always yield profits, but small auctions in remote locations without internet facilities bomb.

More often than not the teams make quite a loss.

It'd be a bloody long show if they had to set up a retail outlet to sell though, and the stock levels would be crap!

Half the time any profit that emerges seems to be a combination of a ridiculous knockdown on purchase price and the auctioneer playing the sympathy card, when no one really wants to bid for it.

Completely agree...but at least there'd be a more democratic way of dealing with it i guess...unless they had a 'core' set of programming that would be sacrosanct with the rest open for these packs. I'd willingly pay £2-3 a month for 5live alone...which would be 3 times what I currently pay for the whole licence

I just wonder when Whittingdale and his Conservative Government will start picking upon Sky and Murdoch with the obscene backdated corporate tax that is long owed. Friends with benefits, Cameron?

For me, democracy has to include provision for everyone, rather than just the implementation of a 'tyranny' of the majority. I think the BBC manages to achieve a democratic basis, through its very broad and occasionally very eclectic style.

Even its news programming, which routinely gets slated by the left and right wing as too biased towards the other side (a sign that its probably about right).

BBC3 is to move online.

I wonder if they'll reverse this like the last time they said they be shutting something down?

Sh*t - you mean we will have to now log on to watch such televisual gold as Snog, Marry, Avoid or Sun, Sea and Suspicious Parents.

I feel a letter to Points of View coming on......

Apparently so.

They're also going to run CBBC until 9 pm as there is such a heavy demand for kids programmes between 7 & 9 pm!

Are all of the BBC3 programmes made up of a list of 3 things?

I want to watch Bono, Lonely, Incontinent or Russell Brand, Porsche, Brick Wall.

Keep BBC3 I say.
