I don't care if they are Palace Fans, but I can't stand Ronnie Corbett, Jo Bland or Eddie Izzard. One comedian who is a Palace fan I do like is Roger De Courcey. Him and his Nookie the bear had me in stitches when I saw them in Maidenhead

Since this thread was created I haven't been able to get out of my head the fact this poor bloke died on live TV with people laughing at him. The best of worst way to go for a comedian, I really don't know.

Comedy often ages really badly. Take Hale and Pace for example. I know right, I used to work when it was on, so I had to record it and watch it the following day, by which point it was no longer funny... I love Tommy Cooper. There is just something about his whole 'anarchic' performance of 's**t magic and haphazard quick fire jokes', that is just pure magic. Him and Bob Monkhouse, were probably among the best of the old timer UK stand up solo comedy acts (Bernard Manning would be my third choice - Much maligned but very talented). For someone who was actually a respected and talented magician, I don't think I've ever really seen him do a 'proper' magic trick, only his farce of magic tricks. Manning was a superb comedian.

People refer to him as a comedy genius but I don't get him. Whenever they show old clips I don't get anything he does in his routine, his form of comedy or anything. There's alot of old comedians who I don't find that funny but I still get their appeal, like Hancock, Milligan, Frankie Howard, Peter Cook etc. But Cooper? Just don't find him remotely funny in any way?
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |
