Goldsmiths welfare and diversity officer, Bahar Mustafa, hits out at racism accusations, stating ethnic minority women can't be racist or sexist
We had a young guy who's parents were from Jamaica who was going out with a girl who's parents were from Barbados and she gave him merry hell. Firm was too scared to sack her She ended up putting in a grievance of 47 separate instances of alleged racism, sexism etc against the firm of which it took the the tribunal 5 minutes thr tell her to f*** off - she thenleft This post reminds me of three separate anecdotes: 1. my sister who lived in Brixton being told by a black woman, "I f*cking hate white people, all white people are racist, I know you are a racist, because you are white." 2. one of my best friends, who is Asian, when we were at school, complaining about people treating him differently because of the colour of his skin, then literally in the same sentence, slagging off everyone from pakistan and saying a girl from school must be filthy because her surname was 'Patel' and "all people called Patel are filthy". And then, when we pounced on it, refusing to back down on any of it and saying it wasn't 'racist' or 'prejudiced' but completely different! 3. a gay guy I used to work with suing the company, which sacked him (because he had lost them thousands of pounds through incompetence) for homophobic discrimination. He'd been a 45% shareholder for over 10 years, the owner was gay, and they'd even had a homosexual relationship with each other in the past!

Well if nothing else, this thread has proven that being a stupid prejudiced t*** is not defined by skin color. Anyone who thinks only white people can be racist, is being racist.

Best explanation I could find...makes sense. Kinda.
As it was explained to me by some people who were minorities, their definition of racism includes oppression, and according to them if someone is not in a position to oppress you, then they cannot be racist. Therefore minorities can never be racist, ever. They actually have a separate term they use called "racialist" (or racialism) to describe someone who discriminates based on race. Most whites do not add oppression into the definition of racism. To them it simply means discrimination and hate towards other races by anyone. So it causes a lot of confusion when whites say racism and blacks say racism, because to them the words mean different things." Anon.

What causes the problem is people generally being unable to accept they're racist, and trying to justify their own racism as being somehow acceptable. Whenever you judge someone or make a decision about someone based on skin colour its racist, because its the reduction of the whole of that person to stereotypes held by the individual applied because of the colour of their skin. Doesn't matter if you've experienced more or worse racism, here there or anywhere. You're being racist. Likely as well when you substitute more acceptable phrases for race, to reduce an individual to a collection of stereotypes - such as immigrant - it can still be racist or prejudicial, because its still the reduction of the individual apriori to fit prejudices held by yourself (and enforced by society), rather than those presented by that individual. Its just as racist to claim all white people are racist, as it is to claim all black people are lazy. The only difference is the historical context of the experience of black people, at the hands of white power structures. That however doesn't make someone being racist, magically not racist, it just examples how certain prejudices occur in the first place.
Likewise some proponants of Racialism aren't racists (Eysenk the psychologist presented racialist theory but was not himself a racist). Edited by jamiemartin721 (12 May 2015 4.17pm)

That might validate the status quo and the Goldsmiths example to some extent, but when the perpetrators are a set group regardless of who's the minority or oppressor in each individual situation then it's utter bollocks. Does that explanation not also imply whites are more sensitive? That sort of nonsense undermines any other form of discrimination and victimisation and therefore the idea of equality. Like the dole, it's a card a lot could of us could play but have the dignity and respect not to. Edited by johnfirewall (12 May 2015 9.53pm)

A mate of mine is a radical feminist and into all the trans- BME people of colour stuff. I got into a debate on Facebook with a few of her "mates". One guy was ok, but the rest were a scary bunch. I posted something which didn't conform to their accepted world view and it got pretty nasty, pretty quickly (ironic, given how they consider themselves the height of tolerance). It was along the same lines as this story. Ie, there was a flat-share in Berlin where if you wanted to invite a white person you had to inform the other flatmates in advance. I said this was racist. They said only "people of colour" are able to determine what is racist. Anything I, as part of the white male patriarchy, might say, is per se devoid of meaning. Which to any normal thinking person is bonkers fascist brainwashing guff of the type we thought we had got rid of in 1945. But to these people, immersed in their twitter feeds and subject to the rule of the electronic mob, it's progressive and enlightened. ......and this has always been my point. Those who preach tolerance (normally on the Far Left) are the most intolerant bunch of 'Swivel eyed' *C/O Seth So true.

They've actually redefined the word for their own ends and expect us to accept that as some sort of justification? What's next? Do we start burning the OED with the real definition in it? Total nonsense.

The rabid left-wing nutters are getting their claws out for Thomas the Tank Engine now. It's apparently sexist and illiberal. "Thomas is a poor role model. Lots of nasty competitiveness between the trains. Thomas (and others) frequently shirk their responsibilities in order to compete against each other or to show off.” And where are the LGBT trains? And why is there a fat controller but no equivalent union figures? You couldn't make it up.
