YES 1982 Cup Qtr Final QTR Final as you say when Clive Allen scored right in front of the Palace supporters all hell broke loose, horses the lot came on.

I hate QPR.

I practised the moonstomp on a policeman's helmet at that one. The daft eejit had come in all full of Met arrogance and bravado to our end. He was shuffled off sharpish but without his full uniform

Still can't quite believe what that small fella did to Burridge. He entered the field of play right by me.

Some great posts, quite a few where I can say I was there was never a main boy but had my moments

Orient away West ham turned up and we had some real fun, unfortunately someone had a glass smashed on his head in the pub after and it all went off big time!
The pub had a lot of it's windows put in after that, and a few in the pub got a kicking anyone remember Junior?

Qpr away 82 was mental only 19 was one of the 1st on the plastic pitch with Bobby K, I vividly recall Pat T on the roof to our left braces and all urging Palace fans to invade the pitch After the game all round the bush area it was going off everywhere.

We got up to all sots of mischief but I wont go into too many details about the Seaweed and Clown scum but lots of fun over the years.
Got nicked a few times at Clowns and go away from Old bill at the Gallstone

Someone mentioned Reading, they came to Selhurst as a newly promoted team loads of chaps up for kicking off.
Some of us had a pretty bad tear up with them near Selhurst train station enough said

Palace had it outside with a top Birmingham firm in 89, decent turn out that day as was QPR away in the cup.
Burnley away on a Monday night FA cup replay was a crack.

Any one remember Oldham away ? Back of the Brighton end at the Goldstone ground was well lively one year.Luton was always a good tear up.Ipswich,Leicester, too many to go into.

All circa 1980'S....The good old days

Was not there but that was the game when the Palace special got a severe bricking from the railway embankments wasn't it?

That's the one, Burnley had a decent mob back then, they was in the Palace end for the game, proper toe to toe stuff inside the ground. Palace took about 1500 up there if I recall. Outside was carnage, train took a proper battering. Luckily I was so pissed I managed to fall asleep in one of them old V shaped luggage racks and avoided hypothermia on the way home.

Never had a ticket for the special either, bunked the Inter City up there, don't get away games like that anymore.

There's a Facebook page called Terrace links, some proper old school photos on there, if you scroll down enough you will find some old Palace photo's from QPR 82.

Had a few scrapes over the years but one that really sticks in my mind in Birmingham at home in 1989...£3.50 to stand in the Arthur right next to the Birmingham fans, and by the end of the night I had picked up £2.50 in coins thrown at us! I was 16 and terrified not of the fighting but of the whole hillsboro scenario happening again! , seeing people being carted off on stretchers I was convinced they were dead!

There was some serious geezers in the Arthur that day and i remember thinking, 4 - 1 up Im going home , only to be blocked from leaving the ground by the Law because of the Birmingham fans that got locked out milling around outside ...when we were allowed to go it was kicking off every where, and I had to literally fight my way along Park road and I remember one top boy shouting "if they are in fancy dress just lamp them" or words to that effect! they seemed to be everywhere!
i remember thinking I need to get away from the crowd but also thinking im safer with them, i ended up running around the back streets with no idea where I was going hunting Birmingham fans with a bunch of proper lads I had never even spoken to! ..... I remember getting home only for it to be all over the news and my Dad telling me if I ever got involved in all that then he would kick my arse! ........

Yes I remember that game very well. Brum had been relegated and turned up wearing fancy dress. I took my two kids to what was their third match at Selhurst and noticed Birmingham supporters buying alcohol openly in the High Street. Several were drunk and loud. We went into the Sainsbury End, the family section and the kids were allowed to sit on the grass almost behind the goal. During the match Brummy fans in the Holmesdale began spilling out of the terraces, presumably because of some sort of intense intimidation at that end. They actually stopped short of the pitch itself and were milling around seemingly not being willing to return to the terraces. At this point the police could have addressed their concerns and maybe repositioned these 'lost' souls elsewhere in the stadium. But no. In keeping with the general air of overeaction that pervaded at that time, the rozzers mounted up and charged across the pitch like the Light Brigade. The milling throng had nowhere to go and dispersed all around the ground, some even getting into our end. Fearing for my kids I went down to the pitch entrance gate and asked the steward there to open the gate and allow my kids back with me. The little lad (looked like a school boy) threatened to have me arrested!
The whole ridiculousness of the situation prompted me to write to both the club, who never replied and the Croydon Advertiser who published some of the letter and said they would pass on the whole of it to the club. An appalling tale of stupidity by the club and the boys in blue. Now I watch the local club Gillingham with my grandchildren and the atmosphere is a happy, party affair. It's the same when I visit other grounds over the country. Mrs Thatcher tried to get a grip but was from a section of society that had no real understanding the game and supporters. But with the clubs being unwilling to solve the problem of disorder in the game, Mrs T's unscientific solution held sway. Now clubs like Palace have only a fraction of their previous support and the game is now financed not by the supporters who love the game, but by faceless commercialism. The game has changed because clubs can afford to get expensive talent from abroad, thus bypassing much home grown players. Even the England team is now under threat because of the scarcity of properly trained English men.
Yes that afternoon versus Birmingham sure affected , in part, the game as we knew and loved it.

If you like the clothes and music side of the casuals. I recommend This book

Great read and it brings back a good few memories. Can't beat a Pringle roll neck and a Diamond cut Jumper on a cold away trip.

PS I still wear my Harrington.

I ride a GS scooter with my hair cut neat
I wear my war time coat in the wind and sleet.
