I’m one of Wilf’s biggest fans, but the fact is we’ve attained 36 points this season with minimal contribution from him.
I know it can be argued he keeps opposing defences occupied , but in my view this has been his least effective season in a Palace shirt.
To a certain extent you can say he hasn’t been helped by our defensive tactics or the fact that he’s often surrounded by three defenders.
But I can’t be alone in noticing he’s often not even beating players one on one which is usually a major strength of his.
He doesn’t seem to be playing with much joy this season and often seems aloof.
None of this lessens my admiration for him as a player but I can’t be blind to his form this season.

But it’s not one on one is it? It’s nearly always one on three. When it was one on one v Newcastle he got rugby tackled.
And one on none v Brighton he hit the post!
I agree though, he has been out of sorts. Is it our tactics? He does play a lot of back passes

He’s either not as fast as he used to be or he has been carrying an injury all season and his holding back slightly when he sprints.

However great he has been i just get the feeling we have seen the best of him. People have always said a player is at his peak at 27 but all players are different. He has lost pace too, seeing a lump like Dan Burn catch him up last week was quite a shock. He still has moments of magic but nowhere near as much as before. He has carried our team on his back for years and it may have taken its toll on him.

not really thought about it like that, to an extent... but I agree, he could be burnt out and just lost that spark which you don't even know you have or how to attain it, it's jut there - I was also thinking earlier, in all honesty, what bigger club is going to pay 50+ for him?

Unless he hits the ground running and improves, he won't do much more than what they would probably already have, last summer was his chance - he could have had a shot with Arsenal or Everton even - imagine him in this arsenal team, but firing on all cylinders to impress.

Parish screwed him over maybe?

Bizaarly, I can see united changing their side around in the summer and bringing him back 'with a point to prove' he would probably cost them 30-40 in theory which would amount to selling his for 55 elsewhere.

if he didn't;t mind going abroad, I could see that, but also, I love him, but he has a slight.... not so much attitude, or chip on his shoulder, but he doesn't show that level of maturity the top players show... which will haunt him,

Here’s hoping on the back of all this he stays. He may be off colour at the moment but for me he is still Wilf one of our greatest stars of all time. Even now he still gets everyone off their seats in the arfur every time he has the ball on the wing. Once he gets the colour back in his cheeks which he will, he will be dynamite again. We all know he is petulant but who wouldn’t be. Clear on goal v Newcastle to be rugby tackled would piss anyone off. I thought he took it well. If he is here to stay chances are we will make Europe. Here’s hoping.

Carrying an injury I think - long term one.
Once we are safe we may see him rested

As things stand I'd worry more if we didn't have Ayew than Wilf...

When Raheem Sterling nullified him at Selhurst that told everyone.

He needed to go last summer but the bids were below his value at the time. Now those bids are above his current value and he could face a future elsewhere watching from the sidelines in a top 6 subs suit.

i think hes just playing a different role, more suited to a team hame rather than the wilf show...when he needs to run & burn past a player he still can but he also seems to has lost a bit of muscle which means he cant brush players off the ball like he used to.

make no bones about it...still our best player by a country mile.
