Just look at the debate about the Confederate flag as an example. What do you suggest? Banning flags? I think many people will be highly scandalised by displays of Nazi symbols here because of the conflict, and that usually constrains its display. The communist flag probably has more meaning in Eastern Europe than it does here, for example.
