I am now going to retire from this thread, otherwise I will probably get a red card.....words fail me.

I feel for anyone who loses their job over the strikes. And both rail company and unions take the blame.

I just find it hard to believe that people are getting fired for something out of their control. Is this one of those British Values people keep harking to. Surely other arrangements can be made. Get a temp in on strike days who comes a different route. Would anyone who was fired have a case against southern for loss of earnings or potential earnings?

Invite was to both unions as both been on strike. Southern/DfT decided on Thursday morning to deal with ASLEF only, they turned RMT fella away. Drivers hold power, southern know this... if they can sort deal with ASLEF, they will just ignore RMT.
ASLEF agreement on DOO means any RMT strikes will have zero effect.

The dude who says I'm a bitter ex employee... that's a hard one to counter... because a bitter ex employee would say... "I'm happy I left". All I can do is say... I put it on here that I left, I made it clear it my decision and that I used my job with TOCs (I worked for more than one) to fund my property developing that I do now. Combining the two, nearly killed me. My life is far better now. I'm blessed, I don't deserve the life I have now.

Life is short... don't waste it.

I understand this dispute is costing jobs/relationships... that is awful, but doesn't alter who I believe to be at fault. How anyone can look at the CCTV images in the drivers cab and say DOO is safe is beyond me

Stop talking bollocks.

They have been told they'll move to other roles but they're striking as they know people won't be kept, or new people re-employed, in a needless job forever. Eventually the number of jobs will reduce, like they will in every sector of work.

I suggest you stop thinking unions have done anything for everyone.

The Unions are always wrong and the Tories are always right (this is their strike).

Meanwhile working people's working conditions get worse and worse and the rich get richer and richer.
And you blame immigrants.

Coward.

Explain?
They have a legal right to withdraw lablour. Any court case would be silly.

Another strike day and more chaos. Good to see that many fellow Cityers got in, worked hard before the 1/1 log jam and enjoyed a good lunch.

The sad thing still is that neither Southern nor the Unions give a s*** about their passengers. More misery next week.

Yep - I beat the strike by catching a DOO Thameslink train. You know, the service operated by Govia that also has Southern Rail as part of it's group.

No it wasn't. The RMT invited themselves.

No they didn't.
A manager told RMT to come along.
I can private message you a screenshot of the text if you promise to keep all names in it private.
