Muslim taxi driver picked me up from Gatwick last month and told me, "English people can't comment on the Taliban, because they don't see the good things they do" my dad who was with me, went ape s*** at him... told him he was gonna report him to Hackney Carriage etc... this driver had some strange views on women who get drunk (I'm guessing he sees quite a few). Islam as a whole needs to reform... way too medieval for me. I remember seeing 1000's and 1000's at a rally calling for the death of Salmon Rushdie... I can't think of any religion that calls for someone to be killed, and then has 1000's of bellends protesting FOR the guys death.

Every single thing can and should be criticised.

He said the Taliban bring security and order. My dad said they also shoot young girls for wanting a education, that's when the taxi driver started having a go at young women getting drunk.

But, for argument's sake, what price order against chaos and further brutality?

Nick needs to go and live in an Islamic country for about six months.

When he is there I'll email him to tell him that not all Muslims think the same. Maybe then he'll see it that for the facile statement it is.

Nick, just doesn't get it....or to be more precise Nick doesn't want to get it. He wants the world to be like it is in his head, when it differs he ignores it....It doesn't matter what the reality is.

But it is true.

Now please go and read about Ismaili Muslims and then tell me why they need 'reforming' ?

This Muslim good, Muslim bad debate is pointless.
Of course some Muslims are decent people, accepting that a religious existence is bonkers to me.
What is more significant is that through mass migration, we now have the widely predicted problem that some among the Muslim faith see us as the enemy and want to harm us.
Persecuting all Muslims for that reality is not something I'd sign up to but when push comes to shove, I am always going to put my safety and my families safety before any other consideration.
We now have a problem the cause of which most people including myself, also did not sign up to. My attitude reflects that situation.

I believe you are just being intransigent knowing really how that attitude at the beginning of the highlighted sentence will make the situation worse for your honourable considerations at the end. It will result in the exact opposite of what you want for your family. It could seem to some readers that you are putting your ideology ahead of what you say is the most important thing if you were to support such a measure.

You have been around long enough to understand that if innocents are persecuted because of guilt by imagined association then it only inflames situations and more violence ensues.

Ismaili Muslims are a peaceful bunch. Let's leave it that way.
