If Wilf is gone then right now we're not in great shape and it highlights how thin our squad is. If Eze got injured we'd be f*cked with Olise possibly out for three months and no left winger and supposedly a limited budget to work within and still no official confirmation that Roy has signed a new deal.

Hopefully with the players returning to training next week things will start to become a bit clearer and things won't be as bad as they look. If the club are not going to do much in the market then losing Zaha becomes a very worrying issue and my thoughts would drift from the potential to crack the top 10 to fear of relegation.

If you look at the club's website & go to the 'Teams' page it has been re-done. Butland, Luka etc have gone, Remi Mathew's is back, Lerma is in(no pic or number) & interestingly enough Wilf is there as well . . .

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

listed under defenders NOT midfielders - mistake or is he being asked to do a Kouyate?

I think it is more likely Wilf getting Injured, unfortunately we are not rich enough to have top class players waiting, in case someone gets injured.

Very few would begrudge Wilf, if he was to move on. For money, silver ware , or both. Including me.
Regardless personally I’m old fashioned, when as is the case here the player lets his contract actually end, I question any reason he has for staying. That’s not to say as a professional he doesn’t have a choice just a question on how he uses that choice.
It would be good if this is resolved soon, more for the clubs sake, than Wilfs, for me the clubs interest most come first.

I get that, but right now we don't even have enough top class players to fill the forward positions even when everyone is fit (if you take Zaha out of the equation).

It’s been a constant problem for several seasons. For a long time it was noted that Palace didn’t win if Wilf was missing, and we didn’t.
It seemed to highlight what a good player was, but really it highlighted how short the squad actually was that it couldn’t cope without him.
Right now, the Wilf, situation, the manager situation, and the Olise, injury, are a real worry , but for ten years or so now Parish, seems to find a way, here’s hoping that’s how the next month pans out.

You're right and I hope you're right on your final point. It's possible Rak-Sakyi could successfully fill in for Olise. It's possible Wilf stays. It's possible we sign another couple of attacking gems. So many possibilities!

It's possible that we do very little in the transfer market

I've wondered for some time and I haven't seen any mention of it - just an idea - has Wilf's contract been guaranteed by someone like Textor or the American investors? Otherwise it seems extravagant for us. We need to reduce wages which, seem to me, to be over that which similar clubs are paying. Without the ridiculous wages outlay - sometimes for players doing nothing - we'd have made money and been able to afford transfers. We have players on the books who'd be no better than using the youngsters. Reidewald, Tomkins, Ferguson immediately spring to mind. If we got rid and used Ozoh, O'Brien, Ademarola as cover - would it really be worse - or perhaps better frankly?
The best players at Brighton or Brentford are not on over 100k a week - as far as I know.
