Ok, so I apologise. I dipped in and got the wrong end of the stick. A news story implicating a previous Archbishop of Canterbury in a cover up is a pretty big deal which certainly demands national coverage. Further arrests in a well covered and ongoing story is perhaps not so demanding of blanket national coverage. It depends on your point of view. The BBC news editors had their's and you yours. I was aware of it and think I got it from Radio 4 news. That’s fine but to me they both deserve to be headline news. My concern isn’t so much with the perpetrators as with the victims. They’ve suffered unimaginable damage to their lives and deserve the dignity of having their situation recognised but the BBC have disregarded and continue to disregard them.

So being slaughtered is ok then if your religious ancestors are judged to have done the same hundreds of years ago? I see it as taming the savage and bringing civilisation to the world (you're welcome) but that's another debate. Where does this ill will manifested as "you brought this on yourself" fit in to your three-fold bollox anyway? You'll get the negative sentiment back triple if you don't watch out... Anyway, as a conscientious pagan I'm off to bake a hedgehog in clay and finger an otter before the Sun's fifth moon comes up. Tatty bye. Edited by ChrisGC (10 May 2019 7.50pm) You really don't get it do you? To a lot of people Christians are the savages. I have no idea what you are going on about 'three-fold bollox'? I think you are mixing up Wicca beliefs with Pagan beliefs. They are not the same,

Isn't Christians being persecuted a sign of what goes around comes around? Christians persecuted Pagans and many other religions, murdered many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, partly due to their beliefs. Bit rich to be complaining now. And millions of Christians had got killed because of their beliefs also. But I think we've moved on from 500 years ago. Unless you think we should go back to the medieval times? However, when reporters across the mainstream media remove the word 'muslim' from articles in order to follow a political narrative, they are no longer journalists but activists.

I agree with your comments about not stating Muslims in reports. I still think it is hypocritical of Christians to say they are being persecuted when for so long they persecuted and murdered so many people. I am not sure why you say 500 years as Christians have forcibly been 'converting' people up until quite recently. Admittedly not always murder but scary stuff nonetheless [Link]

You could use this same nonsensical argument about the pagans who were killing people as well before the Christians turned up.

I never said that Pagans weren't guilty of the same thing, albeit on a far smaller scale. If you read the link I posted you will see that Christians have been guilty of atrocities in relatively recent times so I'm not sure when an agreed cut off point is used for the sins of the fathers argument? Also who gets to decide when? Edited by johnno42000 (11 May 2019 4.54pm)

I never said that Pagans weren't guilty of the same thing, albeit on a far smaller scale. Really, how would you know? Pagans would have been around for far more thousands of years than the Christians. Using this line of reasoning the Pagans have absolutely nothing to complain about.....because as a pagan you share the guilt today. Originally posted by johnno42000

It's in the words. According to pew, from 2010 data, there are over 2 billion Christians. Up until a couple of decades ago I was amongst their number. A person is only responsible for their deeds. It's not a responsible action to suggest that a person can take responsibility for the actions of another....just as we don't punish a relation for the actions of their relative....it's a dangerous and unjust road to go down. I'm fully for attacking the ideas of Christianity as with all religions including your own. If there are messages from within the religion that you think justify violence or you think the religion is culturally incompatible with secular society....again, I'm willing to listen....but, 'sins of the fathers' arguments? Na.

It is also a very blinkered view of history to think that Christians were the only one's persecuting people. In any case, comparing the massacre of Christians in the 21st century to what happened in centuries past is to suggest that Islam is still living in the dark ages.

Na. Edited by Stirlingsays (11 May 2019 5.17pm) That is not the same at all. Christianity is a religion that has been going for many years and, if you know the history of the religion, you will know what bad, and good, things it has done. You therefore make a conscious choice to join their club. That is not the same as having a relative who does bad things as you have no choice in their being a relative. If you join the club you become collectively accountable for the good and bad things the club has done and will do. Much like being a supporter of a football club, like Millwall, who get punished based partly on a history of hooliganism (ie previous incidents put on a suspended basis). As far as your point about Pagans it is very difficult to equate the two religions as there is no World central tenet to Paganism so the collective responsibility would be only on the type of Pagan you are. I realise a similar thing could be said of Christianity (Catholic, Protestant etc) but the central idea of a belief in the Bible and a one God seems to be the essential criteria for being a Christian. That is not the same with Paganism where you can believe in one God, many Gods, Roman Gods, Celtic Gods etc, the list is endless. So, whilst you can say a Pagan who believes in the Roman Gods may be held responsible for the historical killing of Christians that were killed in the Games, you could not hold a Celtic Pagan as responsible.
