The process was right, the appointment was not so it needs tweaking not scrapping completely. Will probably have to give Roy a pay-off given that he's got a contract extension. More madness from the business-running side of things One big question that needs to be asked who do you think will want to come to manage us? Don't forget both Pullis and Allardyce walked because Parish would not splash the cash. Charlton got rid of Curbishley - now look at them Going into the Championship could well see us in freefall like the aforementioned clubs. Is that what you want? Our next managerial move must not be a knee jerk reaction and as we are safe this season we need to chill out a bit.

More madness from the business-running side of things If the Manager's job at Palace became available, I can assure you that there would be no shortage of applicants ( maybe including Chris Powell ) but getting the right candidate will be very tricky. I agree with your comment about the business - why the rush to extend a one year contract, why not leave it until the season has concluded and not base a decision on performance for two thirds of that ? I suspect Roy didn't have any other offers on the table !

There will not be a knee jerk reaction from the 'Board'.Hodgson has secured survival yet again and in truth we were 'Safe' many games ago.

It's not such a gamble as it needs to be done .The board will obviously be now planning for next season.Do you think they will give Roy the limited transfer budget to spend ? Whilst knowing this is probably his last season as a palace manager? It won't be "knee jerk" we are on a very bad run ,players and team not playing with any enthusiasm. Its the Boards responsibility to look at least one year in advance surly.

Have you watched any recent games? Do you think this squad will cling on to EPL survival once again? Credit to RH for EPL preservation for the last 3 seasons but that by no way insures he'll do so again. Sorry I think he's really lost the plot and the players (who ought to be ashamed of themselves). Keeping things the way they are makes relegation next season a certainty. Whatever happens I think we'll struggle - too much is wrong. And next season is just a few short weeks away. For me, the tipping point was when McCarthy came on when McArthur was injured. We're 1-0 down at a club in the bottom 3 who have a shocking defensive record. What on earth was McCarthy going to bring to the table? I can't think of a single moment of attacking football from him this season. If Meyer isn't going to be used in that situation, then there is absolutely no point us having an even vaguely creative player at the club. If there's no point having an even vaguely creative player at the club, a club which has scored the second fewest goals in the league, what's the point of anyone turning up? We're just praying for a clean sheet and for someone to score a wonder goal.

Edited by Eaglehamster (13 Jul 2020 11.47am) I don't think it's a question with being alright with doing nothing. As Willo has pointed out, Roy has delivered his objective in keeping Palace in the Premier League. Presumably SP thinks that he can achieve this next season as well. I do think that Parish is delaying the inevitable and it would be preferable to be able to plan further ahead than the next 12 months, but the way the squad is constructed and the unsustainable wages that go with it mean that we have effectively painted ourselves into a corner. That's one of the main reasons that I have stood by Roy. I accept that it's not been very pretty - but it has been effective.

Edited by Willo (13 Jul 2020 11.50am) I don’t think he will go as well but I do think he should. Otherwise we will be in the same position next season with the most of us bored stupid/embarrassed with lots of our performances. As I’ve said, now is the time as I can’t see any manager keeping us up but we need to be prepared for the season after next. Keeping mainly this Squad together for next season isn’t the way forward otherwise we will be going through 2 divisions in my humble opinion - take a chance now and create a younger more entertaining team to take us forward over the next few seasons. I’m not talking top 6 or even just below that, just a team that gives us some hope of mid table or promotion from the championship. Oh, for a play off final at Wembley again - we haven’t had that excitement for years :-)

The contract extension was offered to keep Hodgson at the club because he had met his objectives of keeping the club in the PL for two seasons and there was every chance this was going to be extended to three seasons and this of course has been the case. A 'Net spend' of just £8 Mill in the three seasons he has been at charge. He is seen as an experienced 'Safe pair of hands'. a safe pair of hands isn't going to move you forward, it'll keep you standing still which is fine in the very short term but not geared towards evolution and not good when all the rest are advancing (save for the bottom three). You still end up getting left behind/relatively declining, which is what is happening. It's a slow and painful car crash that is about to happen yet not completely unavoidable if we act soon.
