"Immigration brings more people into the country....more people equals more chance of incoming infections....spreaders and catchers." I would have thought it was blindingly obvious that any such action would not be done by us unilaterally but in a coordinated way with others. Others who are taking broadly similar precautions and have broadly similar situations. So long as the flows were also broadly similar then the health impact would be neutral but the economic and social benefits would be positive. For everyone not in the high risk categories maintaining social distance is what's important, and not where it's done. I suspect that once the peak pases that will be the way things start to ease off anyway but cannot see any gain in total closure now and think a more nuanced approach would be better.. It's not that difficult.
