I have been watching this thread from the start, and have found it informative and amusing in equal measure. I will be honest, I think striking is a nasty thing to do to the public, it's not even affecting Southern's profit due to the way the franchise is set up, but...

So you don't contend anything written in the post. I'd have thought such a piece would be good evidence to counter what Southern claim. But if you only want to hear one side of the story that's your prerogative.

They're just doing the solidarity bulls***, after all less employees on the trains means less support from them when they want to throw a paddy. I got the sense from your first post in this thread that you are a life long unionised worker. And I have made my mind up, as I only post my own opinions.

Yes it is Is it safe if the driver is taken ill or there is an incident? Southern from my understanding have admitted that the twelve carriage trains do need 2 staff members, but refuse to guarantee that all trains will have 2. Whilst I understand that shorter off peak trains may be safe enough to only have driver only, it seems the union are convinced that southern will run longer busier trains without a second person

You can't contend something you haven't read, it took so long to scroll through it that there is a zero percent chance of me wasting time reading it. It smacks of some s*** copied off of facebook too.

1 guard to a twelve carriage train...disgusting. There should be 1 to every carriage, that's even more safe and if one of the 12 guards are on a sickie (sorry ill ) the train should be cancelled. The driver and the other 11 guards can claim their right to work has been denied..get compensation for depression for not being able to fulfill their duties, take a month off fully paid to recuperate. The lady in Costa Coffee wont get her monthly bonus cos of no trains. Oh by the way fck the train passengers.

As a matter of interest how many of the posters on this thread regularly have to endure this strike? I do and my job is under threat because of it but I'd be really interested how many others actually know what it's like and appreciate it on a daily basis? It changes your perspective after a while.

Long post, but worth a read... Thanks for that, it was, indeed, well worth a read. Informative, and plenty to chew on. I didn't get all the way to the end (I bailed when the author starting letting himself down with personal attacks on and "unpleasant person" who is "nearly as bad as Beeching" - at that point I disengaged, but up to that point there were some very valid and thought provoking points, so thanks for posting it

Sadly I have to use them on week days. I work in Brent so it's a bloody nightmare at the moment.

Southern have rushed thru DOO, the technology isn't there... too many variables. DOO is less safe... the argument is it a lot more unsafe or just a little. Drivers think its a lot more unsafe.. DOO was originally implemented in the late 80's... passenger numbers have rocketed since then. I thought you said it wasnt about safety. Again they dont seem to care about overcrowding on platforms and other(DOO) services due to their actions. Beyond a joke now for people who pay a fortune for a s*** service.
