It's only a matter of time until Parish is out. His business model 'let me spend your money my way!' just hasn't and won't work... let's be realistic.

Anyone coming in will have larger shares and will want control.

Yup, Parish bought us on the cheap and with other blokes, invested but let's be real, he doesn't have the cash to run this club.

Palace won't be asset stripped - lol, what assets? and the land... lol that's a nightmare to redevelop as we all know.

A mega rich team need to come in and do things their way.

Otherwise we can go back down to the champ and Parish can stay and we challenge In the champ, benefitting from the academy... which, would be fine by me.

His business model hasn’t been too bad since, he formed CPFC2010. Presiding over our most successful period in the Premier, against all the odds of mega rich competition.

He is a Palace fan and a very astute businessman, there is nothing wrong with that.

Couldn't agree more. This is by far the most successful period in the 120 year old history of you club. And he has avoided the financial fare play abuses of the mega rich clubs we have to compete with

Most 'successful' doesn't always translate to most enjoyable.

This was once a quality forum....

There have been highs and lows. 2016 cup run. Punching above our weight for a decade. This mixed with a bit of turgid Royball to counter.
Last season was great. Cup run, good home form playing football that was easy on the eye. We just haven’t built on it this year.

Turgid Royball kept us in the PL. To his credit Parish wanted to develop a more attacking game, which was great last year, with the brilliantly successful Gallagher loan and a fit McArther. Without either this year has been much harder and we do need Lokonga and Ahamada to hit the ground running. Because of the brilliant Academy structure Parish has developed, in two or three seasons we'll have home grown talent to do this. But the next three seasons are quite precarious. As another thread discusses, the summer window is critical.

Yep agree with all of that.

I think it right to highlight that Royball was never built for entertainment and thus was not entertaining but equally to acknowledge it was intended to be effective as was necessary, which it was.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Our last period in the second-tier I remember the club pumping singing through the Tannoy system to try and create an atmosphere and hoping Alan Lee would punch someone just to add some excitement. Some of the football during the wilderness years under the likes of Taylor and Burley was awful.

I have periods where I hate what the modern PL stands for with billionaires treating clubs as toys or just as investments, entitled players and this idea that anyone who isn't the big 6 are somehow disposable. I watched the Wrexham v Sheffield United FA Cup first game and it was everything football should be: passion, excitement, blood and guts football. But, I don't think us returning to the Championship would improve things. I do however think that the investment in the academy might mean we might be better insulated against collapse if we did go down, as players like Rak-Sakyi, Phillips, O'Brien, Balmer and Ozoh might thrive at that level.

We played some good football under Roy when he had the players for it before they tightened the purse strings and he was left with an aging squad.

Indeed we did, especially in the 2018/19 season, although, unfortunately, virtually all of it was excellent counter-attacking away from home producing 9 wins out of our 13 total and 32 goals out 51. I got to see 2 of those, the 0-2 win at Wolves and 1-4 at Leicester.

What concerns me the most, is the expectation that in 3-4 years time the academy will be churning out players that will be good enough for the first team. Even allowing for loan spells etc, we would be lucky to produce 1 player every couple of years that is of Premier League standard. It may save us some money, but it will need to be mixed with investment and shrewd buying for us to continue to stay in the Premier League.

Other clubs have larger financial clout. If we can't match it then eventually we will go down. The only thing I can see stopping us going down in the next couple of seasons is if the big 6/7 get their breakaway league and then 6/7 teams come up from the Championship.

Although we have attempted to play more passing and progressive football under Vieira , we have yet to demonstrate that it is truly effective at scoring goals and winning matches on a consistent basis.
We have to increase our efficiency and ability to penetrate opposition defences whether through improvement of the implementation of our existing approach or the employment of an alternative approach which gives us a higher chance of scoring goals and winning matches.
We have some shortcomings in the squad but have enough good players to be performing better than we have in the last couple of months.

Good to see some realism re the Academy. In addition, I would hope that we could sell an Academy player each year for a few million to help cover running costs. As you say we still have to be shrewd buyers, That means buying either from the lower English leagues or from the more unfashionable clubs overseas.

As for the fall-out from any ESL, much will depend on the powers granted to the independent regulator if he/she is appointed. I suspect those powers would include a major say in how any restructuring of the English league would take place.
