‘Progressive’ seems to be used these days to cover and justify whatever crackpot scheme or dogma that becomes fashionable. In most cases, you could substitute the word ‘Irresponsible’ for ‘Progressive’.

They claim 'progressive' is a good thing.

Whereas when you look at how it has affected social metrics you can see that's it's progressive in the same sense that a malignant tumour is progressive in growing within a formally healthy body.

'Progressive' societies are the opposite to Conservative societies.

Visit downtown Vancouver , or a ton of other cities awash with homeless, crime & drugs. Family structure all broken and a ton of kids growing up without a dad. It contrasts sharply to places not yet destroyed by relativist decadence. Poland, Hungary or Argentina seem more civilised than much of the US. Sweden has fallen.

The Socialism of the generous Welfare State ( Sweden, Ireland) produces a society of takers rather than workers.

So whiner confirmed then.

As is this cognitive dissonance, which I pointed out where you will give one position and then in the very next post can give opinions claiming the opposite.

You want your political cake and eat it....just like someone who would claim 'progressive' politics, yet move to traditional and conservative Cornwall.

Pattern noticed.

That you see contradictions in my reasoning says much more about your ability to comprehend than it ever does about my reasoning.

As I have lived in both Wisbech and Cornwall, I am probably uniquely qualified to judge which of us lives in a more "traditional and conservative area".

Cornwall certainly has lots of tradition but it is also progressive in many ways. Lots of artists and writers live and work here. High-tech industries exist here. Wisbech is a backwater by comparison with a well-deserved, in my opinion, reputation for introversive thinking.

Only by the right, who will happily dismiss anything that recognises and corrects past unfairness as "crackpot". Dogma, whether from the right or left, is condemned by everyone sensible

The usual utter drivel, along with the claim that being an artist is 'progressive'. A bit like those that claim being black means you should support the Democrats or BLM.

You can 'correct' the past!

Is there no limit to your prowess?

You are, like so many with your political outlook, confusing two very different things.

OTT socialism, producing a dependency culture is not progressive.

Recognising past unfairness and societal exclusion and dealing with it is progressive.

I'm not against a responsible welfare state, as I believe it forms part of a first world civilisation. However, the state certainly has to live within its means.

As for the rest I couldn't agree more my man.

Progressivism is the destruction of the traditional and the promotion of irresponsibility. The evidence of which is seen directly in all the social metrics. Often progressivism is promoted and pushed by people, who in actual reality are themselves living quite socially conservative lives and living responsibly themselves.....because it's a proven and successful way of life.

Whilst, obviously, you cannot revisit the past, you can learn how not to repeat mistakes. You can also do things that repair the damage done by some of those mistakes. So yes, it's possible to claim to be able to correct the past.

Whilst not every artist could be regarded as politically progressive the very act of making something new can be described as progressive. Many challenge conventional thinking with new, progressive ideas. Your analogy is ridiculous. As well as being untrue.

“Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record."

If something is created that has some politically 'progressive' aspect to it perhaps. Still, as most creation isn't political it's an ill fit.

Personally, I think it best to leave politically charged buzzwords to their own domain.
