They really believe this kind of stuff. How they are actually smart enough to get dressed in the morning, and not get run over each time they cross the street, is a miracle really. Trump will pardon the QAnon Shaman and all his pals on the 19th of Jan, as its red meat to his base of slackjawed halfwits. Alex Jones has to be clinically insane. I get his videos regularly sent to me by an old friend who believes every word and cannot see that the products being sold on his site are just repackaged snake oil. The sooner he is locked away the safer the world will become. It's not just a question of simply disagreeing with an opinion. The guy is a real and present danger.

The exposure of the world's corruption has been encapsulated by Trump's metaphoric phrase draining the swamp. I think you will find I have often said that the swamp needs draining but that Trump is not the person to do it. He just adds another layer of slime on the top. It's no so much the people that comprise the swamp. It's a political system which depends on money and not on merit. Only when that is dealt with will any draining really happen.

Should he have not done so far greater numbers of genuinely innocent lives would likely have been lost. The enquiry will reveal the truth. As Trump carries at least some of the responsibility for why those people were there it is entirely appropriate to mention his name. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (16 Jan 2021 3.35pm)
"Whataboutery" refers to actual events which don't have any real connection to the one under discussion, used as a way to divert attention and muddy the water. I used "likely" about a theoretical situation which is directly related to the one under discussion. It's not claimed as fact. It's an example of a possible way this event might have been avoided and to point out where the finger of blame needs to point.

To be honest, 'watchlists' are more like 'known lists'. It would have to be a police state to even begin to actually track everyone. We have learnt that here.

Also worth throwing in that it may well have been a secret service person that shot her... and I'd be surprised if those guys stop to ask who's deciding to break a window and try to get past a barricade. Let alone if they're wearing a backpack. Why would you not assume the worst and that person is anything other than a potential terrorist, carrying god knows what. Especially if they're screaming at you to stay back and get down, as has been reported. Then I'm afraid the blame falls entirely on you for what happens next if you choose to disregard those warnings. This is also America. They don't need a good reason to discharge their weapons. Those people are trained specifically to protect first ask questions later. You take the risk, be prepared to take the consequences. As for whether she was unlucky, yeah sure, could have been any one of those nut jobs. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't.

Indeed – otherwise pretty much all of this would have been thwarted before it could happen. Not possible (yet) to monitor every single person on a watchlist. They will rather obviously concentrate on a smaller group of whoever their intelligence tells them is 'hot', at that moment in time. Even then, simple budgetary constraints, bandwidth and manpower, no matter the agency, means you can't watch everyone. The risk of spending too much time on someone deemed a low threat only for you to miss a move from a high threat individual which results in something happening... too great. And politically a massive fail.

I also read Biden is stacking up the executive orders at the ready... Meanwhile some NY DA is apparently widening his investigation into Trump's business and tax dealings already. Sure he won't be the first to do so, or the last. Also appears that Trump is using the same tactics as before – delay and obfuscate – by claiming any legal investigation into him is politically motivated witch-hunt. I'm sure that will be true but you got yourself into this situation buddy. And if you've broken laws then what did you think was going to happen? Everyone was going to play nice, like you? The sideshow will be the actual movie, rather than the sci-fi trailer. And probably to the detriment of the both parties TBH. Edited by SW19 CPFC (17 Jan 2021 12.12am)
