On look it's the one nation conservative wealthy landlord taking a break from his cruise to defend the cake nazis.

Fur you z cake is over.

The smoking comparison is obviously hyperbolic, but nothing wrong with trying to make the country healthier.

Yes, then we can sack half the social system employees including doctors, nurses and benefit office workers as they will have a lot less patients and need to not work in the general arena of people and invest the money in immigrant housing!
The nhs gets plenty of money; it just wastes it.
It’s coming up for budget review time. So what’s happening; a company close to me has had loads of quotes from let’s say nhs environments sent back and asked for the cost to be doubled then they are approved, so the budget isn’t affected for next year.
Absolute joke of a political football which needs radically altering to get more bang for the buck. Ffs we are paying for it!

Another media-generated (although from a Government Agency) way to continue trying to suppress society. In tomorrows news, we should all be wearing softer shoes to lessen the damage to insects , should we step on them.
Never mind proper news about Ukraine developments, what Government are doing about all these workers strikes. All distracting tactics.

Are there any real journalists working out there ?

Unfortunately, not just the NHS. It is rife everywhere. I work for a department that has just spent £36,000 each, for 5 vans. Who authorised that ?

Whatever happened to the old 'discount for bulk'?

As somebody who needs to shed weight, I actually think they have a point about this. Now of course I could throw up all kinds of opinions about the money that flows from the sugar industry into politics and what has happened to the West as a consequence, along with extolling the virtues of an almost carnivore diet as opposed to the utter catastrophe of a vegan diet on the people of Northern European descent but I won't because I even bore myself on this.

But where I work, I half-joke about the 'Diabetes Queens'. A culture, albeit well-meaning and from a genuine position of affection, where by the entire place is literally drowning in poor-quality calories, almost exclusively supplied by women, from almost the time we start to the time we finish.

I am a full-on refined sugar addict myself. I actually think the comparison with smoking is a perfectly valid one. A genuine problem I have to tackle as a quality of life issue much sooner than later

What a load of nonsense being tossed about in this thread!

One lady expresses a personal opinion and the right erupt with fury.

I am sure it was a slightly tongue in cheek remark with an underlying serious point. It has become a habit to bring in cakes and sweets to celebrate all kinds of events. Pointing out the consequences of this so people pause for thought is hardly a disservice. They then decide for themselves, armed with another opinion.

It’s not government policy. It’s not even recommended by the organisation she works for. It’s just one person’s own approach. Is she not allowed to express it?

Not sure it’s a recent thing.
I started work in 1974 and we’d bring cakes to work on our birthday to share out. Mind you things like this were a ‘treat’ - we didn’t shovel anything and everything in our reach into our mouths back then. I guess more of us knew that stuffing sweets and cakes into your mouth at every opportunity mostly will lead to weight issues.

As another fellow sugar addict who now has no sugar in his tea or coffee (yuk) you have my good wishes.

I went near cold turkey and I get my sugar fix via low sugar protein bars these days.

I think you are allowed to bring in a cake, as long as it has 'support gay marriage' written on it.

Oddly enough I gave up sugar in tea and coffee (outside of espresso) a while ago and now cannot even bear the thought of sugar in them.

My issue really is carbs full stop. I love a sticky bun. In the past when I have made the effort and gone ultra-low carb/very high protein and fat, then it is startling. Can literally feel my body turn into this fat-burning machine, my energy levels go through the roof and my old crust is fizzing. Literally bouncing off walls

But the buns always get me.

It is a definite addiction, both in physiological and emotional terms. Having to face up to the fact that in the same way I had to take on board a 'one day at a time' mantra when knocking the booze on the head, suspect it will be the same with the carbs.

On holiday one year I decided to take presents back for the workers from Cornwall. At the time St Austell Brewery (brewers of Proper Job) had its Small Batch Brewery in productive mode, and a few cases of various beers (one each) were very appreciated by my fellow workers. The pandemic has proved that we all need and appreciate interaction with other people. Cakes are one example of help in getting through life - as is alcohol (in moderation).
