Well found. I forget not everyone is my age!

I don't really understand why he has gone from being such a fan favourite to being so underappreciated in the last year or 2. In my mind he is very similar to Jedinak, just a lot better on the ball. Admittedly nearly cost us a goal vs Everton the other night, but on the whole I think he (like PVA) is wrongly used as a scapegoat when things do not go well. You can just tell he cares as well, I think a lot more than some others.

Mate do you actually know what slander means?

This is a forum, people give opinions, doesn’t make it slanderous.

As for Luka, in my opinion a decent player but not the player he was.

You compared him to Jedi only better on the ball, even I’m better on the ball than Jedi, that said, Jedi could tackle, lead players and rough up opponents far better than Luka.
Personally I’d take Jedi over Luka in my team, not necessarily the Luka from when he joined, but definitely the current version.

Finally someone else....feel like I've been alone in my support for Luka for months.

I literally laugh out loud when people say he can't pass. He's actually got fantastic vision. The through ball to PVA at the end of Utd....many long balls to Wilf each game. It's a joke.

He's in that DM position that picks up the ball from the
CBs. So when he loses the ball, it's far more noticeable. Wilf loses the ball every two minutes, but because he's up on the wing, no one notices. Often there's no one presenting themselves for Luka to pass to.

And he doesn't break up play or win tackles? Another joke. I spent three games watching mainly him to see if I was mad to be supporting him and he wins more tackles/interceptions than anyone.

He's not quick, no. But he never was. Agreed, his form has been up and down...but he's a quality player, he's our captain and deserves more from us.

Behave yourself.

His passing is utterly abysmal.

He has heart, passion and is a good leader with a brilliant penalty kick. However, on the ball he is an utter liability.

It's just not true mate. Sorry. Watch closer. Sure, he's no KDB...but he can string a pass.

When it comes to his passing. It takes two to tango. Last season everything went through him. When he got the ball and looked up, there was rarely a decent pass on with McArthur and Kouyate making up the midfield 3. They weren't exactly gifted on the ball either so we were always under pressure and we never, ever, went long to Benteke.

This season Riedewald is playing more and is the arguably our best midfield on the ball and can help out with the grunt work too.

The problem remains that none of our midfield have pace. Luka and Reidewald are the best combo.... but then need someone who can put in a shift and has a bit of attacking vision to help them out.

It took a season to work out how to get the best out of Jedinak, he had to be played in a 3 with KG and Garvin (occasionally Williams/Mortiz). Its been our best system, tried and tested, over the last decade. Only FdB and Roy have tried to depart from it. The other 6 managers all knew a good thing when they saw it.

Hopefully the future is Eze playing in front of them in a midfield 3.

Do you not think that, possibly, his passing looks poor because our team have been/are awful at making runs off the ball to create space? Have been the same for several seasons

Against Everton Eze was playing very deep for the last 20mins, picking up the ball just in front of the defence and always looking to pass/run forward with the ball.

Such a difference compared with Luca slowing play down to snails pace with either short or back passes. Definitely need an upgrade with a player comfortable on the ball with mobility.

Luke was 26 or 27 when we bought him. That’s probably the age a midfielder is at the peak.
He’s 30 now, he still has a role to play and still a good player but it is what it is.
