Bentenke comes across as a good guy, but I get the feeling he just wants to stay in London building his business empire and is not quite so focused on his football (hence why I think he's rejected moves elsewhere). If he accepts a wage that reflects his contribution then a year's extension seems like a reasonable idea. Sakho is never fit and when he is he seems to take at least 4 games to be match ready again, by which point he gets injured. He'll go back to France I reckon. PvA has previously said he wanted to go back to the Netherlands, so I think he'll go whether we want to keep him or not. If he wanted to stay I'd be fine with that while Mitchell improves. Wickham has to go. It is embarrassing for him now. Get rid of McCarthy. He rarely stays fit and at his age that is unlikely to change. We need more youth and pace in the middle. Hennessey might as well leave. Butland is younger. If signed Gallagher from Chelsea, Lookman or Sarr, a new centre-back who's a bit quicker, and maybe Maja, then I think we could have a chance of breaking the top 10 next season with or without Roy.

Surely we can use one of our Academy keepers as a third choice and only replace if a serious injury occurred to Guaita or Butland. Also why keep both Ward and Clyne, since if Ferguson isn't ever going to be fit we should recruit another young RB. I'm not advocating we strip the squad of its experience but this will be the time to start bringing some younger players on board. For me, on the basis that the 3rd choice keeper is very unlikely to play, but is going to spend a lot of time getting dragged around the country 'just in case' someone gets ill/injured which will probably happen once a season, in which case they sit on the bench. I'd rather that young keeper be out on loan developing or training and playing regularly with the 23s, with a chance to be pulled into the first team if injuries hit. If Henderson wasn't here and Butland got injured, suddenly Guaita looks seriously isolated looking after a couple of guys with no experience of professional football.

If Henderson wasn't here and Butland got injured, suddenly Guaita looks seriously isolated looking after a couple of guys with no experience of professional football. I've noticed that we are not the only club who seem insistent on having an experienced (usually meaning old rather than good) third choice keeper. People like Lee Grant and Robert Green at Man U and Chelsea come to mind. It seems the role suits a bloke who has been a professional footballer all his life, realises he won't be first choice where he is, and so doesn't mind being back up somewhere glamourous. It's a sort of early retirement but you still go to work a bit. I presume Henderson is pretty cheap and a decent character, and that he sees his career the same way those others did. I actually don't think it's right or fair to put a youth team keeper as third choice. Either the young goalie is good enough or he isn't. If he's good enough then he should be trying to play somewhere, not getting log-jammed in our pecking order. If he's not good enough, then we are misleading him by offering him a professional contract, stealing his formative years in the world of real work somewhere else.

In my opinion, you can't start to discuss the CPFC squad without addressing these issues: 1. Zaha - we've been a one-man team - what's to happen (with or without the money) 2. Benteke, nice guy, tries hard, but has lost it as Premier player 3. other 'goalscorers' we've tried haven't worked for several years now: Wickham, Sorloth, Batshuyai. Smacks of something wrong with the system. We’ve not had a number 10, CAM, call ‘em whatever you like, for years. With Benteke up top it was a bit pointless attempting to thread balls through, and that first season he did well we didn’t really need one. After that we had Hodgson, who isn’t likely to play them often. We had RLC, who could be an option again, as a midfielder who could carry the ball to draw players towards him, but after that there’s not a lot created through the middle, when trying to change to feeding forwards like Batshuayi rather than target men that suited our obvious and successful wing only play when we signed Benteke. With Hodgson you’ll never get a number 10. You might just get a midfielder who’s a bit dangerous or Eze who has to play deep with nobody in front of him so he gets crowded out in possession a lot.

It would be fantastic if he could get some game time under his belt and a full pre season. But given the issues seen it would be madness not to keep both Ward and Clyne. Both are solid Prem defenders.

I think he'll stay unless he's asking for unrealistic wages. He works really hard for the team, even if sometimes he is a bit limited, plus if he left we'd need to probably need sign two wingers (we really need another one even before anyone leaves). I could see him as competing with a new younger, quicker winger next season. Join Newcastle? Why would he want to play in the Championship I agree with the rest, although I hope Wilf decides he wants to stay.

A recent signing (last couple of months) to watch out for is Danny Imray. He's just 17 and went straight into the U23s. He's a RB and potential RWB. He got injured, unfortunately, when hacked down playing RWB against Burnley three weeks ago and hasn't featured since. Hope he'll be ok. He oozes confidence and raw talent IMO.
