I’ve followed Leeds’ progress closely, living just outside of Leeds and being surrounded by Leeds fans everywhere. We need to approach this game with trepidation I’m afraid. Their quality on the ball and movement off it will overwhelm us. They’ll suffocate us with their pressure, drive and fitness levels. Kelvin Phillips being out looks like Klich is being moved to a deeper role based on last night which would help us but that doesn’t mean Bielsa will play the same tactics as last night. The pace of Leeds will catch us out and our cautious approach will see us wilt under Leeds’ domination. The only way I can see is getting anything for this is if we are totally unpredictable in formation and personnel that will flummox Bielsa I i.e Eze, Zaha, Ayew playing behind Batshuayi and being told to put relentless pressure in their vulnerable defence. Guaita Tomkins Cahill Dann Clyne Van Aanholt Riedewald MacArthur

Scoreless draw. Our defense will rise to the occasion, but our attack won't. Guaita MOTM. We'll also be denied an obvious penalty because our attacker will be accused of diving, even though he was actually fouled. And Bats will have his only shot - a goal - denied for being offside again.

That might help playing with 12 men!

They swamp the opposition penalty area on attack but do leave them themselves exposed to fast breaking as Leicester showed. It could be exactly the sort of team we would excel against, but who knows, I can’t remember the last time we played them in a league match.

Good question, I seem to recall being at a game when Jobi McAnuff scored a peach of a curler against them. Was good for us, but is it fair of me to still cherish a player mainly because his name fit so well into the lyrics of a KC and the Sunshine band song?
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

After their complete thrashing at home against Leicester, think that they will be up for this game, rather like they were against Villa and ultra defensive set up will play into their hands.

Hodgson rarely changes tactics for a particular opposition.

Leeds have lost in both games they've played against counter-attacking teams (Wolves and Leicester) although both of those teams played 3-5-2. The key will be our ability to break fast, which when we're playing well we are very good at. Leeds were woeful defensively last night with little cover from the midfield and at half time 0-2 probably flattered them. The pitch was heavy from the rain which probably didn't help their one-touch style and it may also have taken quite a bit out of their legs, and aside from the fluke goal I don't remember them testing Schmeichel that much for all their neat flicks and clever runs. As an aside, Ayling for dive of the season? Also, was it just me or did VAR decide to ignore the fact that Klich stamped on one of Leicester's players? Hopefully they won't bring any of that sh*t to our game. Leeds are well drilled, young, quick and full of energy. What they lack at times is maturity and the knowledge of how to manage a game. It's the reason they'll win plaudits, but also the reason why they'll unlikely finish anywhere near the top 6. It's also probably the reason Biesla has never won a major trophy. It'll be interesting to see how they respond against us...and hopefully that will be poorly!

My last memory of seeing us play them was of Wilf allowing their horrible supporters to get under his skin, inciting him to wave a finger in their direction, for which he was fined. Not having to admit their fans into Selhurst is the only good thing to have come out of the virus.

I remember the last time we played them at home and they got a late equaliser (2-2) and were giving it large on the way back to the train station. Me and my Dad got trapped in the Leeds throng and it was pretty ugly (or should it be they were pretty ugly?)

If they start again, we will need to see huge improvement from PvA and Clyne to have a prayer. Whoever is at full back, and how they perform, will define the game from our perspective. I guess Clyne needs 2 more games to be fully match fit. Similar for PvA
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
