I think the owners are taking the p1ss. Trying to get by with the bare minimum year on year. The fact that we’ve got Clyne on trial infers Ferguson is not near fit and Bats is a loan. In the meantime we renew the contracts on underperforming players to avoid the transfer outlay in the knowledge we’ve a pragmatic and experienced manager.

Yeah I agree. We shouldve kicked off the process a couple of transfer windows ago. If memory serves me correct, the noise was all about reducing the squad age even back then but nothing came of it.

Typical Palace.

Not that I can see it happening, I just hope we don't rush into a rash of new signings just to lower squad age.

I don’t think there is any danger of that, do you?

So the transfer window is now FINALLY over and what have we achieved?

In
- Ferguson
- Eze
- Batshuayi
- Clyne
- Butland

Out
- Sorloth for real money
- Jach on loan
- Innis sold to the Clowns

retained
- Zaha plus all the other first teamers we wanted to keep

Downside
- still got an injured Wickham, an expensive misfiring Benteke and an accident waiting to happen called Sakho.

I'm happy enough to still have Meyer although he'll probably be spending most of his time on the bench (but may get a start in FA Cup).

All-in-all, not a bad window. We have a stronger squad and one which is younger on average than before. Still more work to be done in the next window and not too long to wait.

I think we needed another young winger and a developing centre back.

The number 10 thing is a white elephant. Few teams can afford the luxury the way football is played now.

Perhaps the club hope Banks will fill that role before too long. Or they feel they can wait till January or next summer now that Andros has shown a bit of form again and we have Eze on the left.

7/10
Think the fact we signed players early has removed some of the excitement from the window. Overall I’m please but could of been brilliant if we got Sarr or Benhrama.

Would say if we signed Eze, Ferguson and Batshuayi towards the end of the window people may of viewed it more positively.

By my estimation this is now our squad, roughly in order of strength. I've left out youth players like Kirby who have yet to fully break through.

GK - Guaita, Butland, Hennessey, Henderson
RB - Clyne, Ferguson, Ward
LB - Mitchell, Van Aanholt
CB - Cahill, Tomkins, Dann, Kelly, Sakho
CM/DM - McArthur, Milovojevic, Riedewald, Kouyate, McCarthy
AM/WF - Zaha, Eze, Schlupp, Townsend, Ayew, Meyer
FW - Batshuayi, Benteke, Wickham

Positives: I think we've evidently strengthened some key areas of the team, particularly at right back and in the goalkeeping department, with Butland a much better deputy than Wayne.
Eze must be considered the signing of the window for us and will hopefully, if used properly, either exploit the space created by teams concentrating on Zaha or take some of the attention away from him altogether to allow Wilf to thrive.
At 29.8, we had the oldest squad in the division and, with an average age of 25, our new signings will bring that down slightly.
Keeping Zaha obviously a major win.
Our net spend was, again, not far off the lowest in the division so hopefully we can plug any further holes in January.

Negatives: I'm slightly concerned that Butland has been brought in as a replacement for Guaita, not Hennessey. In an ideal world he signs a new contract and we ship out Wayne in January.
We were crying out for another winger/forward and a centre-back but didn't land either. Half-hearted bids for Sarr at the last minute, a pursuit of Benrahma who damningly preferred to play under David Moyes and the dildo-salesmen, Brewster opting for Sheffield United over us can all be marked down as missed opportunities.
The striking situation which, let's be honest, has been shambolic since we were promoted, still isn't a lot clearer. Do we have an option for Batshuayi next summer? If so is that next summer's business already done? Conor Wickham is still here and must go down as the worst signing in the history of the club, in terms of how much he has cost us. Whoever gave him a contract extension, even on reduced wages, needs flogging.
Our aging central defenders will have to muddle through again and I just pray that two of them remain fit enough so that I don't ever have to watch Sakho needlessly scythe someone down or slice the ball into the path of the opposition striker again.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Unless my maths is wrong I counted 28 senior players. I thought we are only allowed 25 in a senior squad plus youngsters. Do Eze (22 years old), Mitchell (21) and Ferguson (20) all count as youngsters and if so for how long?

Banks doesn't count for those window, was last year signing. But you're right, is promising.

No argument on the gaffer but I might challenge the period of time we have been in this division.

7.5. Higher marks had we off-loaded Wickham, and pushing a perfect 10 if we sign Sarr (we won't).

You guys are forgetting Banks. Nominated for player of the month in PL2 (development). Expect to see him off the bench soon and starting in the Cup in Jan...

To answer the OP's questions 6/10 not bad but I really wanted another striker rather than a winger which we didn't get. If Batman gets injured we are in trouble.

I think that there was still excitement as Roy said that we needed another striker and we all waited in hope to see who would arrive
