Freedman didn't bring in those really required, a right back, a midfielder who knew what the oppositions half looked like, cover at winger, cover at left back and another forward. Forget Ferguson because he has just arrived however as good as the other signings were, the positions they covered were not where our biggest weaknesses were.

As it happens Ayew pulled the rabbit out the hat and chipped in with a lot more goals than anyone would have expected after his loan spell (thanks for that btw Jordan otherwise we would have been deep in it). McCarthy has been underwhelming but solid, Cahill and Guaita excellent. There is still no proper explanation as to why a right back which was a glaring deficiency along with a centre forward wasn't filled in either window.

Had it not been for the medical issue, Ferguson would have been with us in January. You can hardly blame Freedman (or anyone at Palace) for a problem that only became apparent (and could only become apparent) at the last minute. One can argue that trying to sign someone at the end of the window is a risky strategy but we don't know when Palace were in a position to go for him. WE can speculate, for example, that we only had enough money for a striker and that when it became apparent that Bowen wouldn't be coming to us, the focus switched to our other need, a RB.

You have kind of answered your own point there. Last minute.com doesn't work and its not the first time we have missed out in the final hours of a transfer window.

Unless im very much mistaken, but, isnt THIS thread about POTY? So, why has it descended into SP/DF & Ferguson?

Get a grip lads, post on the right Threads(plz)

A lot of dross to pick from. Cahill, Guaita and Ayew have been the only ones worthy of a mention. Cahill probably edges it.

Probably imagining it, but I thought I just read that Cahill is not better than Sakho!

You have a strange take on events, I cannot believe anyone is suggesting that Cahill on a free, wasn’t good bit of business.

Why is Freeman getting stick from you, he brought in Cahill, Guaita, Ferguson for free, Ayew 4m McCarthy 3m. Big Sam brought in 4 players for over £40m. Just wondering what Freeman has done wrong.

I'd read my first sentance again.

In all honesty, I think Freedman is doing well to source players on the budget with have, and he's got an excellent track record in the transfer market going back to his time as manager. I just thought I'd ease up on Roy a bit and give him the benefit of the doubt for a change. His remit of getting rid of players is one thing that's gone particularly un-noticed, except for the Sorloth affair.

All I'm saying is that the transfer market seems complicated and time consuming, we've gone after a CB and a DM, really Roy should be telling the scouting team to concentrate on getting him a RB and CF. But unless we see the conversations between SP, DF, and RH we'll never really see where the issue is being caused.

Whilst BFS spent a lot, it was clearly directed in the areas where we desperately needed it.

That’s correct. Sakho is far better. His passing puts him on another level to the other CBs. Cahill’s passing is woeful in comparison.

But you can't vote for Sakho after Leicester just as you can't vote for VG after Sheff Utd, Burnley, Leicester.

Are we watching the same Sakho? I do like Sakho but he is a real risk taker in his passing, often plays very risky balls to midfielders who are put under pressure and he has a tendancy to try to overly play his way out of trouble. Has been caught in possession doing so on several occasions. All very entertaining but I have palpatations when he has the ball!

I think that POY is between Ayew, Guaita and Jimmy Mac.
With Cahill worthy of a mention.

Guaita & Ayew have both had hot and cold spells this season but we would have surely been demoted already without either of their contributions.
Jimmy Mac is having a great season, gets stuck in & just gets up & gets on with the game, shame we don't have the forwards to take more of the pressure off midfield.

When you think back to last season and contrast Jordan Ayew's efforts to this season, the goal against West Ham that will surely be Palace's goal of the season does that not tip the balance?

Steve Parish if he gets back in Susannah’s briefs.

Player of the year? Is this a joke. It’s like nominating a player on table top football. Scrap this year I say.

Actually reading a few posts it’s reminded me that Guaita should get it, twice or three times. We’ve really blagged this season. Scraped some games, not shown up in loads and not gone for it when we could have rather than protecting a 1-0 loss, at home. There really is nothing to celebrate or award in this ownership strategy until we get bought out.

I think your heads gone mate. I used to be a big Sakho fan but the guy is a time bomb. Complete liability. Fair enough his passing is better than Cahill’s but nothing else is.

Each to their own, you’re entitled to your opinion. Hope Sakho proves me wrong but I’d be surprised if he’s still here next season. Not good enough and salary far too high.

Spot on Rudi,, the best passing performance this year has been the ball boys, at least they get the right player every time!
