Zaha sprung into life when put on the right. Considering Townsend is left footed and Zaha right footed, I struggle to say that we are using the correct tactics.
I have a sneaky suspicion that Zaha has stated that he wants to be on the right and that explains a lot about this season.

If you think a right footer should be on the right and a left footer on the left you clearly don't watch enough football. The last 7 champions league winners have used them on the opposite side.
Bayern - Ribery & Robben
Madrid (4)- Ronaldo & Bale
Barca - Neymar & Messi
Scoucers -Mane & Salah

I do however agree that it may suit us if we tried to play to big Ben's strengths but it's justifying building a team around a striker that isn't scoring.

its hard to play well when your double of triple marked.

also to add to that, with response to other comments, i do not think we should sell him at all...i think it would be a foolish move on our part.

however our hand may well be forced if a proper bid from a proper club comes in for him.

He might well have been still carrying an injury but in all honesty we haven't seen Zaha at his best for a while.

With a slow ponderous build-up when he does get the ball he is surrounded by players so it makes it difficult for him.
If we played with a higher tempo and not dropped behind the ball in 'Shape' this might greatly assist him.Furthermore an attacking left-back might well create space for him.

At present all Zaha does is get the ball, finds himself with opposition players around him and either just goes inside or passes it backwards and sidewards.

You make a good point, but then Roy's strategy is survival and he seems happy to just keep us afloat. There's no push to invent to shake things up.

Someone like that- I guess this is where the scouting department are supposed to earn their corn. I only suggested him as he's someone I think can defend as well as bomb forward at speed when we are on the offensive. Joel hardly ever overlaps Andros, possibly due to being told its all about defensive shape. However I suspect its because Joel simply doesn't have it going forward.

I tend to watch Palace rather than any of the glory seekers but whatever floats your boat, guru. Despite the fact that some of those players play with both feet and nearly all (all?) have played extensively down both flanks. My point was that I can see Palace play better with Zaha on the right. Zaha right, Bolasie left used to do us well, we could do the same with Zaha and Townsend and actually bother crossing - as you point out.

The right time to sell was last summer, regardless of fee... we probably could have got 50 mil for him at a push - what would we get now?

He has under performed and a year older...

We could have got someone in on less wages, for around 15-20 million and they would have had a whole season to integrate... it would have made us more even keeled and approach games differently.

his spark has definitely gone.

When he moves his only options would be someone like Newcastle Everton or West Ham. He wouldnt be a starter in any of the traditional top 6 plus Wolves barring perhaps Arsenal. If there had genuinely been a 52m bid from Everton last summer now with hindsight we should have taken it

I never think Zaha isn't trying. He gives everything, but its now really difficult against well organised teams. They double/triple up on him quickly, he is forced to pass into midfield where we have no creativity, and little threat on the other wing. He does though look jaded and needs a change of scene, so we should sell at the end of the year, he should go with everyone's good wishes. Please Roy spend the money on attacking players -not another holding player!

Not sure if we've ever tried to play to Benteke's stengths under Roy.

Would like to see more interchangable play like we did with Yala and Zaha under Freedman. If its not working with one on the left and one on the right, but that would mean making tactical changes during a game.

Would be nice to have someone paying behind the striker to support in the way Puncheon/Garvin used to. If the wingers have to be doubled up on, then it will give us an option to play through the middle. Mayer has shown know shooting ability so far, but could we potentially swap Townsend into the middle like we did with Puncheon. That would allow the wingers to fire early balls in to Benteke, and potentially give Townsend time to shoot if the opposition sit deep to mark Benteke.

Right on cue as I mention him, there he is scoring against Norwich from outside the box. We have too many players like Joel who have little attacking ability, or ability to shoot from distance.
Keeping to the thread,Zaha being double or triple marked is supposed to free up space for others. If they don't use it, is it Zahas fault?

Allan Saint-Maximin is showing Wilf how to do it!

Phenomenal performance against Bournemouth the other night and not the slowing the game down / lame sideways stuff we’ve seen from Wilf this season.
