It's an interesting one.
Whoever comes in would have to be prepared to work with Freedman as Director of Football.
His role at Palace seems quite an influential one.
Many managers like to have total control and are not comfortable working with the DOF model.
It may be that the club are looking to promote from within which is risky as there's a lack of experience and no track record.
Outside the club Parish has previously spoken highly of Hughton who is available.
This may concern some as he's cut from a similar mould to Hodgson.

Freedman will need to be appointed Director of Football first; he's Sporting Director (whatever that is):

He's not considered important enough to get his own pen portrait either.

With some forward planning, they should have lined up a new manager in January, with 4 players he wants - get them in and use the rest of this season as pre season for next. I mean this with the greatest of respects to Roy, but it's obvious to me that Parish views him as interim only and to keep us afloat.
Roy came out and said he is with a squad he inherited, and let's be honest, it's an interesting squad with no real design to it.
Also, it's fair to say it's not unusual for a club to invest and go into debt.. parish just isn't willing to gamble on that angle... he just gambles he has enough to get over the line.
Zaha - why would he stay?

So yeah, I feel they should have planned someone to come in and get 2/3 players and then slowly sort out what they want to do for next season, with the zaha money to spend a part of in July.

There will be 1 more season with Roy at the helm and only god knows who the manager will be after that.

Doesn’t really matter what Freedman’s job title is, he’s still an influential figure at the club with overall responsibility for scouting and recruitment.
The central point remains that many managers don’t like working with this model, particularly strong minded managers who wish to choose their own players.
This could impact on the type who would want to accept the role as manager.
It’s not rocket science.

Given our transfer strategy, our next appointment will be someone we tried to get in as manager about 3 or 4 years ago but rejected us.

Pellegrino?

Really? If so, he's not doing much of a job is he? I suspect he's in fact just another puppet sat on the CEO's knee.

Is that a guess or are you privy to contractual details?

I’m not commenting or whether Freedman is doing a good job or not.
He may or may not be a ‘puppet’ but in simple terms many managers don’t like working with this model.
They like total responsibility for player selection as ultimately they are judged for on the field matters.
It really isn’t a difficult concept.

We don't know what restrictions Freedman is working under. Has he been told to do his job on a shoe string? Some have suggested that he is deliberately sabotaging Hodgson I find that hard to believe and if true and I was Parish he would be out of a job and certainly not taking over the manager's role.

I think for now we limp on until the end of the season the best signing we can hope for is new owners with deep pockets then we will see if Freedman is any good.
