I’m reluctant to panic just yet but I’m not optimistic. We barely pulled together a squad this season and we’re seeing now where a few injuries are leaving us. I’m reluctant to panic just yet but I’m not optimistic.

We barely pulled together a squad this season and we’re seeing now where a few injuries are leaving us. We don’t have the players to back up those who are hardly ‘first team quality’ as it is. Short term we’re only a few bad results away from the relegation zone and long term a lot of these players are old and on the way out.

With regards to Roy, the football is sh!t and sometimes unnecessarily negative but he’s doing the best he can with the bare bones he has. Ends have justified the means so far..

We desperately, desperately need investment in some young players who can freshen us up and hopefully give us an attacking edge that we are desperately lacking.

My view is we have in place a manager and a group of player who are more than capable of maintaining our position in the Premiership. You can argue about the style with which they are achieving it but it is effective enough. What the fear is how we move forward and there are many ways and precedents to pick from but copying is not always the best . Natural evolvement is best and I think we are all finding it difficult to see the next natural steps. Investment is the key and until the levels of investment are clear we will have to just muddle along as we are. In the meantime Roy and the players continue to perform and the future rests with the hierarchy , brining in a young goal scorer will not change much . It is the owners plans for the future that we need to see and maybe then we will be able to give our judgement but in the meantime........... COYP

What the fear is how we move forward and there are many ways and precedents to pick from but copying is not always the best . This has been an interesting thread to read. Points I take from it are: (1) We are playing very unattractive football. In the end, football is about entertainment, and there's not been much of that this season; (2) We are punching above our weight, and for that both the chairman and manager should be applauded. But it won't last for ever, and Roy will surely go sooner rather than later; (3) We have nothing tangible to show for 6 years in the Premiership. Parts of the stadium (esp. the Arthur Waite stand) are an embarrassment. We all got excited about the new main stand plans, but they seem to have come to nought; (4) Our squad is old and threadbare, Wilf is clearly going to leave, there's not much sign of youngsters emerging from the Academy, and splurging millions on signings like Benteke and Sakho has been a mistake that shouldnt be repeated. Solutions? No obvious answers but: (1) Shouldnt we recruit a young deputy to Roy now with the idea he should assume the reigns in, say, 12 months time? (2) Shouldn't we make a start on the new stand now (and if JS wont sell the bit of land we need then modify the plans accordingly, allowing for expansion when/if that land becomes available)? (3) With the £50m from AWB and £70m+ from Wilf, surely it should be possible to sign half a dozen promising youngsters from lower league clubs assuming that, with good coaching and easing into first team duties, at least half will come good over next 12-18 months? (4) Couldn't the chairman convene a public meeting fans can attend where he outlines where he sees the club going (and how we get there) medium-term, so we can at least try to understand what the strategy is?

Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure the AWB ££ went to service the growing club debt , with the remainder on the Summer transfer business and new contracts for existing players. We’re running on empty despite bringing in over £140 m a year. That’s his crazy football has got. Tekkers and Sako alone will have drained close to 90 mill from the club by the time they leave on a free. This is the harsh reality, unless we find an owner with very very deep pockets ... pretty much like most of the clubs outside the top 8 the best we can hope for is mid table obscurity and the occasional win against the big boys.

It might not be that long when we are in pitchy seas when we will not so much flounder but succumb to the tempest, each wave picking us up and hurtling us further from the shore.We will be creaking like the 'Mayflower' in a gale.

Start buying players now, and they could well be an expensive mistake if they do not fit with the plans/style of any new manager. Using up what funds are available to buy more additions to the bench warmers would be stupid. Don't buy, and you will have trouble attracting a decent replacement for Roy, and even if you do then he would only have a severely restricted amount of time to find players to suit him and the team. A real chicken and egg situation - but agree that something needs to be done. Maybe once we unload some more of the 'dead wood' purchases?

Is it ? You can play free flow attacking football, get beaten more often than not and get relegated, Is that what you want ? 2. Well, he's 72 so that's pretty obvious. Good to see you giving him some credit though 3. No we haven't and it's disappointing that investment for redevelopment was secured but no real progress made. I see the reasons as being a change to the Americans commitment and the usual issues with trying to get permissions to get anything done in urban areas. 4. 1. Is it ? You can play free flow attacking football, get beaten more often than not and get relegated, Is that what you want ?
2. Well, he's 72 so that's pretty obvious. Good to see you giving him some credit though
