I think as long as he chips in with the odd goal he should be in the lineup or first off bench.

We have no goal threat from our other midfielders from open play. Luka, for example, has just 2 in 75 league games

I've criticised him in the past and can't pretend I'm not in the 'we should start Meyer' camp.

However, he gets a lot of unwarranted flak in my opinion. Beginning to remind me of Sako at the end of last season when he started chipping in with some goals. Never going to set the world alight but effective nonetheless.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Schlupp....is on the up.....yup.....

I have royally slated Schluppers many times, but honestly he deserved it at times as his performances earlier in the season were dire.

Lo and behold with a run of games in a similar position he is now starting to fire.

He is still pretty clumsy and lacks accurate passing at times, however he does bring some solid attributes to the party.

He is strong, quick, and does like to get a shot off and has a cheeky eye for goal. I think I would play him ahead of MaCarthur right now as Jimmy Mac is having a poor run.

Previously when someone got Schlupped it was us, with a mistake or poor performance, however these days it is the opposition getting Schlupped by Jeffrey.

For me it shows how much we have been missing with Cabaye leaving, who really fought hard defensively but was still great on the attack with Hugh pass completions. Neither Schlupp nor Meyer are as sound defensively whereas McArthur does offer a lot defensively but has lost a lot of edge going forward

Agree with this.... I sometimes used to think towards the end that we wouldn't miss Cabaye... How wrong I was!

I still don't know quite what Schlupp is?... Left back? Left winger? Centre midfielder?... What I do know is that Roy clearly rates him.

My issue with Schlupp this season has been how slow he has been to track back, which has cost us a couple of goals at least, but in his last game he did actually put some leg work in and chased back to good effect. His plus points are that he is surprisingly good in the air for someone who is a modest 6' and over short distances he is incredibly quick, plus of course he has a good shot on him.

On the downside, if you look at his stats (average per game) his pass success rate is worse than the rest of the midfield, he has no assists, offers very few key passes and is below every outfield player bar Meyer in terms of successful tackles.

(stats taken from here [Link] )

I know you can't base a player on their stats, but from looking at them they basically confirm what I see when I watch him that being he is good offensively but questionable defensively. I do wonder his best position is as a striker/forward, rather than a midfielder.

When discussing our midfield players it’s hard not to point out one who needs a rest.

I used to dig out Schlupp on the regular too, but he turned me around with taking his chances for goals and his all around improvement.

Sorry to point it out but based on that criteria Macca deserves some criticism.

Nonsense, he gets himself into great positions ..very very unfortunate not to score more.
