You could be right. Roy and the coaching staff have the stats from training so these days they know if a player is not 100% fit. I like Andros he always puts in a shift but that has to take a toll and it's a long season.

Maybe Roy is resting him until he has recovered?

I don't doubt he will play an important role through the season.

When he came on to replace Schlupp he was smiling so hopefully that is a good sign.

I've thought for a while that if we were going to get the best out of the players we had then we would have to change formation and a casualty of that would have been someone like Townsend unless he played up top.

I did, however, think that the change wouldn't have been for Schlupp but more Meyer and Camarasa and playing a bit narrower with those two trying to pull the strings whilst Luka, & Kouyate, JMac or McCarthy sat deeper across the middle to give them more freedom, almost a 4-2-2-2 with Zaha and a striker next to him as the top 2.

I'm sure he will get his chance again, but given we have 40 central midfield players and we don't play with much width, something was going to have to change.

I have never been Schlupp's biggest fan as he is the biggest reason for me wanting to throw myself off a bridge when watching Palace, mainly due to his inability to pass a simple ball to a team mate. But I must admit I have seen improvement in him this year and I also think PVA is a lot better with Schlupp in front of him.

Townsend for all his effort lacks quality in a lot of departments, especially his end product and the defensive side of his game is not good.

It looks to me like Schlupp will become a regular in that position now with Townsend facing a batttle to get back in and Meyer staying where he belongs (firmly on the bench)

He doesn’t always cover and assist the full back as well as he should. That was happening at Sheffield, when on the right side in front of Ward. It’s always been in Schlupp,s game to defend, Wilf, isn’t perfect in that area by any means, but we can only afford one Wilf. Townsend, does get it right on occasion, so he won’t be out permanent

Massively disagree. Always tracking back to help Wardy out and carries to ball up the field with pace and purpose. And as for end product...seen him put more dangerous crosses in than anyone else last year...plus the worldies.

Crazy comment.

Townsend worse at giving the ball away than Schlupp for me, it's constant even on his good days.

its very hard to change things when you have only lost 1 game and let in 2 goals,so something is working,Andros is great option to have on the bench, and i for one would not be worried if he starts so + - ,Jeff is playing well and sometimes scores as well so until things change Andros will have to wait

Im not sure what games you are watching last season but his crosses are awful 9 times out of ten and he may track back but is forever jumping into challenges and getting skint. I like him as a player but when he doesnt play it makes no negative difference and that says a lot.

Townsend has quality and works hard - but I am extremely frustrated with the fact that as a naturally left footed winger he plays on the right. not only does this mean he all to often has to come back inside on to his strong side (which slows the the pace of our attacking play) but makes us very predictable. On top of this the fact that Wilf (As a predominately right footed player) is doing exactly the same on the left. It irritates me like mad and I think is part of the reason why our strikers have been rubbish.
Shlup gives us much better shape and balance - and I think he is developing his forward driving runs and is actually the better option. I don’t want us ruining our shape to Indulge Townsend’s occasional cut inside and shot on target.
