I am offended by many things but I recognize that words are not something to get worked up about.

If we blanked out all the words that people claimed to be offended by, we would soon have only blanks. A slippery slope if ever there was one.

I'll do the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay any day, but sod doing the 10,000m. Does that make me a racist?

No but castigating Melchester Rovers player manager does.

Clarkson got slated for using that! I'm surprised it wasn't censored.

I'm going to resist the temptation to make any play on word jokes.

Clearly saying British people should have priority for jobs in Britain is not racist. At the moment we have a system where people from the EU get priority for jobs in the EU, which is exactly the same thing on a larger scale.

The thing I find bizarre about this is why an MP felt the need so say "don't call me racist" for wanting to provide protection for local people in the local labour market.

It strikes me that she probably has some confused underlying racist issues. Like people who start sentence by saying "I'm not racist but" prior to making an outrageously racist comment.

I think is suggests that she might believe that to be British you might need to belong to a certain race.

Personally, I believe that jobs should go to the best person capable of undertaking the role regardless of where they are from, but protection should be in place to stop recruitment turning into Dutch auction.

I think it would be unfair on making companies publish statistics about where there employees come from and it could result in service for consumers being negatively affected. Not to mention the unnecessary increase in bureaucracy.

What would be better would be if the home office publish figures about the percentage of foreigners claiming benefits and their cost to public services compared to what benefits they bring. Probably done on a mode/median cost per head.

There will always be terms that some people are unhappy with, no matter how innocently used. However, I think there is a line where we, as a modern, liberal society, have a consensus that certain terms are 'racist' or at least highly offensive- the N word, for example.

And firms being 'named and shamed' on the numbers of foreign workers sounds like a policy dreamed up by the BNP or NF- I am astonished we have a government actually doing this. Next step, presumably, is to make them wear badges as well.

When I worked in Singapore I had to go through a process where I had to prove that my job could not be done by a local.

When I employed people, and I wanted to employ ex-pats, I had to prove that the job could not be done by a local.

It is a common practice around the World. For example, getting a Green Card or exemption to work in australia is complex and difficult if you are doing a job where the local pool of potential employees is significant.

Why should we be different? Do you think it is correct for some businesses to farm out cheap labour to immigrants instead of paying reasonable wages to British workers?

And cut out the unsubstianted guff in he last paragraph. Overreaction for political reasons.

Probably because the filter has to be loaded manually and Admin can't think of every offensive word

I don't find the word f**k offensive but yet it's been added to the list. Why was this not put to a vote? Yet again it's the people at the top deciding what is and isn't offensive on behalf of the people.
