The greatest full back I have ever seen at Selhurst. Saw his debut game, I think he was seventeen.

Kenny had to leave Palace as he was suffering 'financial difficulties" indeed I reckon he might have been the only person to own a bookies and NOT make money despite him being its biggest customer. He was around when there was no safety nets and no support for players with addiction issues and I can't help but wonder how different things could have been. He lived near me a while back and could regularly be found passed out on a bench totally pished. If you caught him on a good day, still had a few great tales to tell.

To be honest i get a bit fed up with these “celebritiesl” like kenny, he has made choices in life, he has wasted some of his life, he has no more right to sympathy than the thousands of other poor souls who get affected by alcohol etc, but time and again, they mess up

I thought we had employed him as a club ambassador? - most likely, to help him out. I have no idea what happened to that.

As a young lad I grew up with the young team of the late 70s. Lots of good players, lots of success however it was Sansom, a full back, not a skilful winger or goalscorer who was our star man. To me at the time he was Palace. The guy is possibly in my opinion the best left back to have ever played for England, he was seriously that good. I wish him well and hope he can turn his life around but am not hopeful. His family were well known Saf London villains, some who were famous underworld figures. He could probably tell a few stories.

As I recall it, the decision was made to "do him a favour" by granting him an unsolicited transfer thereby entitling him to a percentage of the fee. I stand by my original assertion that we failed to get the full value for his transfer - as evidenced by the successful career he had thereafter (repeated a few years later with Ian Wright) - AND we had to give him a share of the proceeds. Nothing against him. I began my post by saying he was the greatest.

That's what I was referring to. He had to leave as he had racked up a lot of debt and needed fast cash.Bankruptcy was a far more dramatic event then than now. He was to my mind of of the most talented players to wear the shirt.

I've told this story before. In the late eighties I worked with a girl whose father bought Samson's house which was in a private estate in Chislehurst. Samson was downsizing due to money problems and did a house swap with them moving to their more modest home in Bromley. He was still playing at that time but I guess this was all due to money and alcohol problems. It must have been tough on his family when their lifestyle should have been going one way and yet even whilst playing it was on the downward slope. I gave up drinking as I had a problem although never as bad as Kenny I hope he recovers but as others have said there is only one person who can help you and that is yourself. Get well soon Kenny.
