My son is 14 and next season fights in the national schoolboy championships. He trains 5 times a week plus goes running with me every other day. His aim is to get into the GB squad within the next 12 months and make the 2020 Olympics when he will be 18. After that the plan is to turn pro and win a world title at Selhurst Park! (gotta think big!) Boxing is a hard and lonely sport ans so to help keep focus his wall is full of Ali posters and quotes. Nobody seemed to do inspiration like Ali could. Below are some of the Ali quotes from my lad’s bedroom wall.

He wasn't perfect. His disrespectful 'Uncle Tom' treatment of the great Joe Frazier was sickening. However, the good outweighs the bad. His achievements, in and out of the ring, will transcend the misguided influences he may have been under half a century ago. 'Facing Ali' is an excellent and touching documentary - in the words of men who actually knew him, and who faced him in the cauldron. Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Cooper, Chuvalo, Tyrell, Shavers, Spinks, Lyle, Holmes. They are far better qualified to comment than we are.
We are the goon squad and we're going to town. Beep Beep! |
