And the above conversation is how I knew it was time to get married.

I manage people both in London and in a China office. Today, China declared (or at least our China office, I'm not sure where the decree came from) that women could have the afternoon off. Brilliant. Celebrate women's advancement by removing them from the workplace for half a day. As long as they make up for lost time. I will have my pound of flesh! Joking. Half joking

I get the jokes, but it is an issue. It's not just some gimmicky day, it's important. The sad fact is that equality doesn't exist. FGM is still a massive cultural problem in Africa, 1 in 3 women experience sexual or physical violence from a non partner and 2 in three from a partner. There is still a significant wage gap and it is harder to get a job and advance in said job if you don't have a dick. Ideally we won't need a day to celebrate women just like ideally we won't need events like PRIDE as equality will be the norm. Maybe someday these events will mean as much as international tartan day or men's day, but right now they don't and I think that's sad. Edited by coulsdoneagle (09 Mar 2016 6.12pm)

Edited by coulsdoneagle (09 Mar 2016 6.12pm) I agree with what you have said above - all round the world women suffer (sadly, usually at the hands of or to satisfy the needs of men), but if I may ask, what exactly did you do to participate in International Women's Day? Did you do something positive to further the causes of these women, or did you merely acknowledge that it was an important day for women and carry on as usual? This is what I simply don't understand about these designated 'Days'.... what actually is one supposed to do?

I don't imagine for a minute that Peter Sutcliffe would watch Hillary Clinton's Woman's Day message on YouTube and think 'she has a point. Maybe I should start respecting women instead of bludgeoning them with my claw hammer'. Edited by matt_himself (09 Mar 2016 9.25pm)

Edited by matt_himself (09 Mar 2016 9.25pm) Instead of imagining what Peter Sutcliffe thinks, why not just ask Jamiemartin if he now respects women or instead went to B&Q for a top up?
