No gay nominees either so does that make them racist and homophobic?

Are you sure?

Closest one is Cate Blanchett but she's married and only said as much while promoting a film where she played a lesbian.

This story really sums it up.

About 12% of the American population is Black. So why the f*** do some of them think that they should automatically selected for awards?
Last time I looked you had to deserve it.

This is from the same school of thought that says that there should be more Black football managers even though, the amount of black players is hugely disproportionate to the few percent of black people in the population.
Rather than celebrate this, some want to just keep complaining.

only just seen this...pretty much spot on.

Well that;s done it. Wil Smith is boycotting the ceremony.
A real tragedy since his body of work is impressive.
If he stars in more films as great as After Earth and Bad Boys he is bound to be nominated before long.

Suicide squad is bound to get him a nomination nest year...

If we are playing the numbers game then I suppose - and i have no idea how much it actually is - then you both agree I assume that 12% of lead and supporting roles should be played by those of a darker hue?

Most films have a mixed cast to appeal to the widest possible audience. That is business. The leading roles will go to appropriate actors who are often white because the population is overwhelmingly white. If anything I'd say black are over represented in films and on TV relative to their numbers.

Plenty of examples of black people being overlooked and plenty of people who love to pick up on statistics (have they only just counted up the black nominations after 85 years?) But the US seem to suffer more from 'white privilege' as if poor white people don't exist and it's the greatest gift on earth to be born a straight white male.

With respect - That is just plain emotive speak with no actual figures to back it up and to make yourself feel better about your uninformed opinion which you wholly believe in whether it be true or not.

I would have been more impressed if people like Will Smith boycotted when actually nominated.

Whatever the rights and wrongs, it Just smacks of sour grapes. Or are they saying that the oscars are only racist this year?
