Lefties won't believe this story Matt.... it's from the Daily Mail.

Strange though that they believed the story about Cameron and the pig.... which was also a Daily Mail story?

Double standards nick?

It's a shame. Goes to show how f***ed up religion can be.

Religion didn't force the family from their home. People did.

Sounds like an NRA type argument.

Imagine no religion, I wonder if you can......

Thanks for that patronising response.

In turn, please name one socialist paradise where all violence has been eradicated.

I imagine you cannot name one...

Touchy.

Violence will always exist as you know full well but we can remove one of the biggest excuses for it.
If people are going to harm each other, at least they could avoid doing it over who has the best sky fairy or how to worship it.

Patronising moi ?

If you really wanted to further integration and remove hatred, you would do well to cease referring to people's deeply held beliefs as 'worshipping a sky fairy'.

If you cannot see the hypocrisy of what you are saying, then don't bother to respond.

Sorry Matt, but it's people's 'deeply held beliefs' in a God that creates this type of nonsense. Isis have 'deeply held beliefs' that their God wants Islamic law across the world. Catholics have 'deeply held beliefs' that homosexuality is a sin. Evangelical nut jobs have 'deeply held beliefs' that abortion is wrong. These 'deeply held beliefs' have led to dreadful violence against innocent people.

As an atheist lefty I find all religion truly repugnant. Anyone who can truly believe in the Adam and Eve story is quite frankly ridiculous. Anyone who will harm other humans on the basis of such fairytales is even worse. I tolerate all religious beliefs but I tell you, categorically, the world would be a safer place without it. What should no longer be tolerated is the idea that religion should be free from aggressive criticism. It shouldn't be, it needs to be flagged up for what it truly is.

The above conveniently overlooks the fact that three of the biggest mass murderers in recent history - Stalin, Hitler and Mao - were all atheist and also to me sums up the lefty creed - we tolerate everyone & everyone is equal (except for those whose views are different from ours).

Your crusade against religion is driven by ignorance and a failure to face up to a reality that any excuse in any situation can be used to justify violence, it isn't limited to one cause or situation.

PS. Up until relatively recently, British Communists proclaimed that homosexuality was the 'result of perverted capitalism'. Funny how views change to suit situations, isn't it?

The thing is Matt, that political ideology can change. The British communist party were wrong to say that. Will the Catholic Church reverse their ideology on this issue? Absolutely not.

I love that atheists are described as ignorant by people who believe in talking snakes, Noah's Arc and that sacrificing your own child in the name of the Lord is acceptable. I genuinely don't know how church goers are able to stomach what they hear in light of the overwhelming evidence that there isn't a god.

Mao, Hitler and Stalin were pychos. This is clear. This is the desperate argument religious people use when faced with uncomfortable truths regarding the violence religion causes. Nazism is now rightly condemned. The swastica is seen as a symbol of hatred. Yet, as time goes on people still commit murder under the sign of the cross, they hurt innocent people under their 'deep held beliefs'. This is fact. You cannot run away from this. Mankind has learnt from Hitler, it refuses to learn lessons from religious crusades though out of a. Fearing to offend some people and B. Being repressed due to the fact religious institutions are still extremely powerful in the top echelons of our society.

'Desperate argument religious people use when faced with uncomfortable truths regarding the violence religion causes' - tell me, did Stalin and Mao kill over 40 million people - yes 40 million - themselves or did they have brainwashed 'socialist soldiers' do the work for them?

This is why you are ignorant. You are failing to listen to, or choosing to ignore what I am saying, which is people will use any excuse to kill in order to obtain power.

Blaming one belief or ideology is wrong and as you think religion causes pain, I say that socialists s*** does stink when it comes arbitrary mass murder in the name of its ideology.

Face up to it Godless one.

Also, you ignorance of religion and how religion should be interpreted is staggering. There are countless examples of religion changing and adapting - look up something called 'The Reformation' for an example of this.

You can safely ignore my opinions because I do not subscribe to any particular set of beliefs? The world would be a better place if more people did not subscribe to specific sets of beliefs. My point was that religious fervour is the same as political fervour. The Islamic fanatic who beheads someone while shouting 'God is Great' is the same as the Communist who shoots someone in the back of the head while shouting 'long live the revolution'.

I missed this first time through the thread.

Personally, I don't think you meant to be racist against Asians. Did you?

I meant what I said Peffers.... if you interpret it as racist then there is little I can do.

I like the response from redblueyellow :-

I'm a tolerant sort of bloke, I still think there's a way to make multi-culturalism work in Britain.
Yet this story (and a shed load of others) about Muslim 'behaviour' really illustrate that there's no answer to stupidity when it's sanctioned by a religion.
What really fcuks me off is that they refer back to 'The time of ignorance' (meaning before The Prophet) and then use that as a cover for the most stupid and destructive actions.
Also, strictly speaking the Christian and Jewish faiths are protected under Islam as all are considered to acknowledge the same 'One God'.
Ignorance, hypocrisy, misogyny, intolerance and violence are becoming bywords for Islam and it's not all being done by antagonistic commentators but by the Muslims themselves.
If I'm reaching the end of my tether with these idiots, I can well understand the reactions of those with more Anglo-centric or anti-religious sensibilities.
Obviously not all Muslims are like that but it seems that the idiots are going to spoil it for everyone by finding justification for the unjustifiable in the Koran.
For now, I'll continue to trust the Muslims I know as friends and colleagues but beyond that......no, not any more.

That pretty much sums up my feelings about Islam too.

DNA is about race and ethnicity, yet your excuse is about religion. You seem to want conflate the two, I don't trust people like that it smacks of 1940s.

It's in their DNA.

When we ran India, the Muslim servants were the most troublesome.... the Hindus and Sikhs were pussy cats in comparison.

What other religion has a holy book encouraging it's followers to kill "non believers" ?

"When we ran India"

Ah yes, when Christian extremists invaded an independent country and killed hundreds of thousands if not millions of people for no other reason than enriching themselves and the East India Company

Would you say India would have been better off without British occupation ?
