I agreed a bargain last night - she gets to watch Xfactor and I get to watch MOTD - but was told that there is three and half months of Xfactor s***e to come! I f***ing hated Cheryl Cole, someone called Nick I have never heard of and some other singer I have never heard after mere minutes of the show.

I yearn for the days when Saturday night TV was Cannon & Ball doing something unfunny with some bemused guest celebrities followed by Tales of the Unexpected (because as a young lad, it was often your first, furtive view of side boob happened during the show).

PS. It f***ing on again now! Sunday night used to be Bulleye.

And in my youth "Sunday night at the London Palladium" featuring the game show "Beat the clock".

I remember the 'Tiller Girls' and Jack Parnell.Used to be hosted by Jimmy Tarbuck and Norman Vaughan amongst others.

Liked the bit at the end when all the artists used to stand on a revolving stage and wave to the audience.

Do you remember Tommy Handley in ITMA, too, Willo?

NO !
But I've heard of Tommy Handley.

I've heard of Tommy Trinder ! In fact my late mother-in-law's mother and Tommy and Freddie Trinder's mother knew each other and used to go on outings together.Never did meet my mother-in-law's mother - she had passed away.

What did you do in the war?

I was born in 1952 so wasn't in the two World Wars.
My uncle was in the Korean war in 1953 and whenever I see him he keeps going on about it.
I've not served in the forces so have not been in a battle arena.

is this your uncle?

I think X Factor is pretty much harmless if you accept that:

1) The majority of the British public have a truly sh*t taste in music and need to be appeased.

2) It isn't a music show, it's a form of TV entertainment. Songwriting is what takes talent, not singing the same cover songs again and again, year after year.

3) Simon Cowell may be a c*nt of the highest order, but you get the impression he couldn't give less of a toss as he makes a ton of money out of all the idiots who watch his show.

Best policy is to ignore it. I can't believe people aren't bored of the format yet!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It's a game show. Nothing more, nothing less.

And anyone who takes it more seriously than that, should have a long chat with themselves.

Go Simon!!

I think it exploits people. It builds them up with "You're going to be a star" nonsense then drops them back into their previous life, penniless yet recognisable. It's a trap people walk into of their own volition but still.

On top of that some of those put forward to be laughed at are borderline special needs. Less so now possibly, but back in the day definitely. Uncomfortable viewing.

They used to have to pay script writes and actors and so on.....

now no-bodies come in and act like tits for free and losers phone in and vote and spend easy earned dole money..

Edited by matthau (31 Aug 2015 1.39pm)

Indeed it is, usually you have to pay the talent, where as things like X-Factor the talent ends up paying you.

Only ever watch stuff I download or live sports these days - TV just makes me feel dumb.

Simon Cowell has correctly identified and exploited the fact that the Saturday night TV watching demographic is full of gullible morons with short attention spans. The cleverest part of it is that he cons viewers into thinking they actually have some involvement in the which acts he's going to develop instead of being passive consumers who are making him a load of money before he even offers some sad act a record deal and drops them 3 months later.

Doing deals with the missus? Really. I thought everyone had at least Two televisions in their house.
Grows some balls and tell her she is watching MOTD whilst serving you cans of chilled Stella in a rounded Stella glass of course. Snacks optional and a blowy after Palace have appeared of course.

The above makes me think you are not in a relationship. Or ever have been. There are some times you have to do deals.

Also, I would far rather have a nice warmed glass of VSOP than a Stella.

Cheap brandy.

Steady on, old bean. A good VSOP is an excellent Gentlemans beverage.

Besides, any drink that Eazy 'muthaphuckin' E used to drink for breakfast whilst getting sucked off by 'dirty assed ho's' is good enough for me.

Get some of this [Link] down your gullet. F*cking lovely.

But at over fourteen hundred quid a pop, you may wanna stick to the half pint glass.

When I worked in a bar in Midtown I used to sell on the empty liquor bottles to a guy involved in The Hip Hop scene in the Bronx. I used to make 20 Bucks a bottle and he would fill it with a inferior liquor & sell it on for a fortune. Hennessey, Stolichnaya, and Grey Goose were my best sellers I used to make 2/300 a week for doing nothing.

Its a game show in which the only winners are the hosts. Its basically 'Stars in their Eyes', with a soap opera element thrown in, and a chance to earn Cowell and his mates a big Christmas bonus, before going back to stacking shelves in B+Q

The truth about Vodka almost any old vodka above the basic supermarket variety tastes so much better when it ice cold. The difference between a 10-12 bottle and a 40 bottle - Can't tell the difference in the taste.

Generally true of all drinks - there is a mid range in which quality and value have no relationship (same with wine as well, you can get a very good bottle for 10, 20 or 80 quid). Then there is the silly money range, which I've never purchased. However I will say that Crystal Champaign and Krug taste very different to that 60-100 champers - but not so much better that I'd spunk 300 notes on a bottle.

I think you can tell the difference with vodka only if you serve them warm, when smoothness is a factor. But Some of the fancy vodkas do have very pretty bottles....
