Over here if you took your kid out of school for a week, you would be hauled in front a school board and maybe even court. Its ridiculous, but its the way their education system is set up here. A week from school means you fall behind, and no teacher is going to help you catch up. I estimate that 13 weeks of the 39 week school year is a complete waste of time, fully one third, so they rush the other 26 weeks to finish the curriculum.

I know all about paying top whack for holidays as my wife was a school teacher for 35 years ! She is now retired so we don't need to go away when the children are off school.
