Got an 2.0 TDI A3 now and it goes like the clappers when over taking on the motorway, brilliant car.

I would highly recommend. Hyundai are basically the same company so I imagine it all comes down to your preference on design.

It's not so much a question of booting the arse out the engine, they are programmed so if you do about 60mph constant for around 15mins it will burn off the excess soot that causes the problems. If you're doing mainly inner city mileage I'd recommend doing this once a week (mechanics might suggest longer intervals). Shell diesel has more additives to the fuel, these help clean the engine components - supermarket fuel is as you would expect, not so refined. A decent diesel additive should be available in most petrol stations and using that every 4 tanks will also help the engine run smooth - it costs about £5 a bottle and does 2 tanks worth so £2.50 every month isn't much. My BMW had so many sensors, most decent modern cars do, but if you ever have one go faulty outside of the warranty make sure your mechanic buys actual BMW replacements - I tried after-market on mine once and I had to get it replaced after week because the computer was too sensitive and the readings it was producing were still giving the fault code. It sounds scary but don't let my experience put you off - I'd buy the new 3 Series tomorrow but just take better care of the blooming thing! BUMP

Just a thought on diesels. The way things are going with likely tax rises on them due to pollution levels and a probable sudden drop in 2nd hand values of diesel cars, I'd tend to steer clear.

only buy a French vehicle if you are comfortable giving your mechanic a shovel full of cash every month. Japanese, German, Korean...are the best. There is a little booklet on economical motoring available from the AA or halfords with some excellent advice. They recommend allowing a car 5 years of depreciation before buying it.
