This is key to a lot of what I say. Who decides what is offensive? Most of the stuff decided on here comes from people who live in the back of beyond, those in professions with motives or those who think they know what is best but have hidden themselves away from the real world. The person who claims offence. In terms of law, they then have to show reasonable grounds that it was offensive and towards intent. Typically attempts by state to label offensive have been hilarious failures.

don't you love 'positive discrimination' ie. a white bloke doesn't get a job he is well qualified for cos he is a white bloke. and you end up sacking Alan Pardew and hiring Harriet Harman to run your football team. Doesn't work quite like that, its if there is an choice between two equally qualified candidates, then the default position of Positive Action is that the other person gets it. Is the wrong answer and is actually 'positive discrimination' and contrary to existing law in this country. Positive Action is lawful but can only be applied BEFORE the selection process takes place e.g offering extra tuition to recognised underepresented (as defined by the existing legislation) groups or actually encouraging said groups to apply for a position. However, at the point of selection, under current legislation, everyone is considered as equal and the most suitably qualified person SHOULD get the post regardless of ethnic persuasion, gender, disability, sexual orientation etc. Thanks for that. Of course, they aren't - and the job typically will go to the white male, because its unconscious bias in society, as opposed to constructed along rational lines. Everyone says they'd select 'the most qualified of all the applicants' that typically isn't the case (because the human mind doesn't work like that). Indeed some people will specifically select the racial minority, through unconscious fear of being labeled racist.

A stupid idea of course, since people can be victims of racism regardless of their race. Excluding white people is racist, so this is a racist anti-racism event.

Having been a manager/director in the Public Sector for 30+ years would have to agree with your summation, however positive action although laudable in trying to remedy the manifestation of past discrimination remains a hotly debated and contentious area of management. Damned if you do and obviously a racist if you don't.

The same union refused to hold a Holocaust memorial event with someone bringing up Palestine at the meeting. They've also promoted a boycott of Israeli goods. They love a protest and in fact there's daft home-made banner outside right now. I can only attribute this to having to attend university in New Cross and probably just commuting from a nice home rather than being in a uni town with more focus on sensible passtimes like getting pissed all the time and the occasional bit of work.

Goldsmiths welfare and diversity officer, Bahar Mustafa, hits out at racism accusations, stating ethnic minority women can't be racist or sexist Bahar Mustafa, as she has already demonstrated in spades is an utter imbecile. Simply reading.... ....demonstrates brilliantly that she sees herself as some kind of victim and wears her race, gender and class on her sleeve like a Scouts Housekeeping badge and that anything and everything negative that effects her daily life is to blame on one or all of them. She's simply a polytechnic revolutionary c*nt I still would though
