Most housing benefits are paid according to rental agreements with landlords. Private owners rarely have much recourse to housing benefit.

It does make me wonder what the hell politicians get up to all day when they come up with rubbish like this. All this pointless tinkering around the edges, coming up with micro-wheezes which, even if they do get implemented, don't make a blind bit of difference anyway. And all because they're terrified of offending anyone and losing a few votes. Stop piddling around. Just cut all benefits in half for, say, the last six months of 2013. Wallop. 35 billion saved in one. Sure, people would moan and kick up a stink. Tough titties, benefits'll go back to normal at the start of 2014, it's free money anyway so stop moaning. MPs are c***s, don't try and use that to justify not making changes elsewhere. I don't know anyone that wouldn't happily see them have their perks end expenses withdrawn but it ain't gonna happen. You're getting less free money, no tax involved whatsoever and it's also pull at the heartstrings bollocks, just like Ed Milliband and his story of the twin boys serving in the forces.

No. It doesn't have to be. Ed Miliband is a smart man. He knows that when making decisions which affect millions of people you can't take into account every last individual. Going on about the women with the soldier sons is pure political opportunism and he knows it. The Tories would do EXACTLY the same if they were in opposition. And for as long as the idiot public laps it up they're not going to stop. It's been the same for decades. Thatcher did the same with free milk. The tabloids quickly labelled her a "milk snatcher" label and the idiot public lapped it up, going round chanting "think of the children" like the sheep in Animal Farm. You act like butter wouldn't melt either, as though all you care about is poor little innocent children. Pull the other one. But surely if you are living in free or subsidised accommodation then you should consider yourself lucky you have that much ! I I think it's a bit harsh over one spare room but 2 or more and people should be moved on !

Yes I do find it difficult to digest when I read that 30% of children in Leicester and a quarter of all children in Bristol are living below the poverty line. See [Link] so I do care about the 'poor little children' particularly in my line of work where poverty is one of the chief reasons behind poor educational achievement. My only political agenda is that those who are worst off through no fault of their own are not penalized by those who don't have a frucking clue what it is like to be poor. It seems to me that the current lot in power are doing more to exacerbate the problem than previous regimes.
