Always looking to pass the ball forward in the first half and does link up play well . Second half as the game became stretched he lost his way a bit which was surprising as when he comes on late in games he looks half decent . The Jury's still out, we all want our players to do well but if what we are seeing now is it I would sell . Needs to improve

I really like Max and with a different manager, I think he would be an automatic starter. Roy likes his midfielders to be more defensive minded. With a run of games I really think he could offer us something different, and be an assister for us. Roy sees it differently and you can't argue with him. Think he's been top class since he's been at palace, considering he's had nowhere near the budget that Pardew and Allardyce had.

Agreed! Love him. Alwasys looking to pass forward. He should be in every game, either as a starter or a sub. Originally posted by sotac464

Best attacking performance for many months. Not a coincidence that Max started. He's a genuine game changer for us. He gives us that bit of quality in midfield to help unlock defences.

He used to be a really good attacking midfielder in his youth in the Bundesliga, but then they pulled him down to central midfielder position and he lost his touch for goals or creating them. He's been tried on several position since he arrived at Palace, but team doesn't really play with an attacking midfielder behind the main striker, so he's mostly forced on the wings. Shows touches of grandeur, but considering that he has the highest or second highest salary in the squad+ he could bring he club some money too if sold (I'd say he still has decent value in Germany and could bring in 10 million), would it be bad if he got sold in the winter? I mean, with adequate replacement. A very similar attack minded player like Ryan Christie for example seems younger and in a much better mental and physical condition and would not cost more than 15 million, coming on a smaller salary than Meyer. What do you think? Would you still have patience with Max? I don’t think it’s about us having patience with him, I think it’s about him having patience with us. He’s a decent player and, personally, I’d mould the team around him if, as expected, we lose Zaha. Edited by Helmet46 (26 Dec 2019 6.36pm)

His problem is that he cant sustain his performance for 90 mins, just fades away. That is Roys issue, so only uses as sub in second half or plays him when his options are reduced by injuries.

a lot of times he has seemed to run into dead ends, get a bit isolated and then run in a right handed circle into another dead end - he's doing this less now, and turning defence into attack with a pleasing regularity, Roy turned it round last season playing Luka deep and Schlupp and McArthur as sort of left and right inside forwards, Myer might suit our system best if he played in that slightly advanced narrow right side of midfield role that JimmyMac played last season.

Quick feet and intelligent . We’ve not seen the best of him yet. He doesn’t have much bite when it comes to putting in a tackle.

I can pretty much 100% say that a player like Ryan Christie who scores or assists in every match for Celtic (though a lower level, he's still young and will surely make it in the PL) would do more than Max. It's easy to do more than a player who has contributed no goals or assists and has hardly played 250 minutes this season. For 5 million? Yes, I'd make that exchange. Team needs goals more than anything. Waiting for Meyer indefinitely or building the team around Meyer, Benteke, Wickham, Schlupp and even Townsend with his current form shows us that our attacking options are pretty horrible. In my humble opinion, we should be more demanding from out players. Saying that we could mold the team around him Meyer after a year and a half here in which he hasn't proven anything is fantasy. There's been plenty of time. Let's not simply accept mediocrity from players. You have a chance- take it or move on. Edited by mattteo (26 Dec 2019 7.50pm)

A very talented player.. good passer of the ball nearly provided Ayew a goal in the first half... links up well with Wilf .. they are on the same wavelength..ok not a great tackler but there are others around to provide that.. I think we are better with him in the side!

He looked unfit today. He needs game time if you ask me or sell and get yet another functional/box2box midfielder. Sigh

Edited by mattteo (26 Dec 2019 7.50pm) Meyer is an awful lot better than you give him credit for and I see no one suggesting building a team around Benteke. Meyer is a victim of our style of play. I’d rather he has a decent run playing to his strengths (which we have not done) than to draft a player in from Celtic. Christie is, incidentally, the same age (a few months older, than Max). It’s not Football Manager.
